This is one of my favorite places to go. There are two areas to choose from, one is farther down the road but actually upriver from the other. The views are wonderful; it's teeming with all kinds of wildlife; the water can be very cold, especially this year, but I find it invigorating. Most of the time the place is pretty quiet but there are times in the summer it can be quite crowded. There is a $5 cost to park that can ONLY be paid with a credit or debit card, no cash! Read moreMy wife and I have recently spent the summer here as camp hosts. The park has a lot to offer, it is a gem in the rough. Meaning that it is a shame that the visitors here have no respect for nature. They set up their tents on the lawns and kill the grass. Then they proceed to picnic and leave all of their garbage behind. No need to worry about the fee's, unless your here on a busy week end you wont see a Ranger until closing. None of the rules are enforced as they should be. It is a shame that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers don't seem to care about this park. First time I went they immediately yelled at us through a mega phone when we drove in that the park would close in one hour, when there is signs clearly posted what time they close. Second time they followed us in their park ranger truck, yelling at us through the mega phone they closed in 45 min. 5 min later, they announced AGAIN they closed in 40 min.
