One of the great parks in San Diego County! There's some great hiking trails to entertain yourself during the day. The whole park is a very relaxing atmosphere you can rent a tent space or upgrade to a partial which is really intended for an RV but you could take your 10 and have the luxury of Power and Water right there at your site! Are Ranger was Eric and he was so nice and helpful. We pitched a tent for the first time ever and had a lot of fun. I would strongly recommend you Tie tent down and definitely install the rain fly. If you don't want to wrap it there's two lovely cabins that have three separate rooms a front room that has a table and 4 chairs and then a sleeping room that has two sets of bunk beds one of them is a full size and the other three are twins and the last room is a bathroom and has a sink and a toilet only. There are showers really close by but take your quarters because since California is in a drought situation there is a fee for the showers. If you are a fitness buff there's a fitness walk with some really cool machines that are out in the middle of the part that you can have a fun run then workout and tone your muscles on the equipment before you head back to of lovely Bonfire by your tent. I'll try to include as many pictures as possible of the tent site so you would have an idea of what you would be expecting. I would recommend sites 19 through 22 oz are the closest to the restrooms and seems like the most level. I would take something to Breakaway stones and pieces of tree branches before you put your tent down. The stars are absolutely incredible at night so if you have a device to see them bring it along if it's worth it . All in all a very lovely park to take a great few days to get away from the craziness...
Read moreBeautifully kept. Extremely tranquil. Fairly remote. However, be careful about parking there alone (after paying the day-use fee) and expecting to enjoy some solitude. At least during the off season. I was minding my own business enjoying the quiet and peacefulness of having the place nearly to myself when a neighbor called the sheriff's department on me. I noticed the man watching me and taking photos of my vehicle. So, I started taking pictures of him and his vehicle parked in his yard. He didn't like that. I was doing nothing wrong or illegal. it's a shame that people have become so paranoid that they can't allow another person to just simply enjoy the great outdoors; that somehow a lone person in a place like that is suspect. Then to have the sheriff be more supportive of him than of me was a double blow. However, I will not allow them to keep me from coming back. It's a county Park and it belongs just as much to me as it...
Read moreNEVER STAY AT POTRERO COUNTY STATE PARK. The staff are absolutely rude (esp. Samatha), they knowingly put you in areas where park maintenance is being carried out with chain saws, tow-commercial chippers and blowers. The worst is the park is surrounded by acerage properties all of which have multiple dogs. These dogs howl, bark and whine all night, and I mean all night. The longest interval between being woken up was 10 minutes. Take your hard earned money elsewhere. Wish I’d stayed at the Twin Lakes Resort, which BTW has a cafe operating and it’s only 5 minutes up the road. You have been warned do not stay at this San Diego state run park. The showers I’ve seen better in third world countries, see attached photo. I wondered why I was pretty much the only camper here when the one up the road was full - now I know why and you now know. THE RUDEST EXPERIENCE I’VE HAD IN SEVEN MONTHS OF CAMPING AND...
