Time management is a must for visiting Crystal Cave! The drive to the cave parking lot took longer than the estimated 30 minutes. The hike to the cave was ok, the cave it self is ok, but the hike back to the parking lot is a beast and it took me a good 45 minutes. The coolness of the cave felt so good after the hike there and I drank all my water on the hike back. Tours are lead by park rangers, our's was a high school hisroty teacher and she was so great my child now wants grow up and also wants to do cave tours as a summer job. The some of the formations are magestically beautiful and awe inpiring while others look like basic borong rocks. The oldest "room" you visit on the tour is 1.3 million years old and the cave is still actively "growing" so most of the path is wet. You are told how important it is NOT to touch anything within the cave, however there are 2 sections where the path is so narrow it's practically impossible not to brush to sides so save any curious fingers for those 2 sections and leave the rest of the cave alone. There is no gift shop on site, the closest one is Giant Forst Museum. If I ever visit the parks again I would enjoy visitng both the Crystal Cave and Boyden Cavern in Kings Canyon and will reccommend both to...
Read moreTook the guided tour to Crystal Cave in Sequoia. Absolutely breathtaking, one of the best caves I've been too. It's admittedly a bit of a hike down; pretty much all downhill and several (supposedly 11?) groups of stairs (some are longer than others). So you know it's going to be all uphill coming back. And while its cool and brisk at the level of the National Park, descending into the canyon gets noticeable more humid and warmer. Meanwhile the cave is cool/cold. So...be prepared for both kinds of temperatures when visiting!
That said, our tour guides and staff were all super friendly and helpful! They were very patient with the kids and accommodating for the adults. Follow the rules and be respectful to the cave and one's surroundings, and you'll have a great time! The cave is worth it all,...
Read moreWe had an amazing guide, Jay kept it light and informative. The 1/4 mile hike down is steep to get there and super steep back. Both ways are completely vertical. This hike is not an easy feat and not for the faint of heart. Others say it's doable, but both down and straight up had our legs wobbly. Inside, there's some very narrow areas, about a foot and half wide where a large adult will have much difficulty. We loved the cave. The experience was unforgettable. We enjoyed the waterfall and plenty of places to rest on way back up. I will say the road to Crystal Cave is unpaved in areas and it was rather bumpy, so be ready to drive slow once you turn off...
