If you want a cheap and easy way to get out of the summer heat. Take a trip to Sherman Island. It's free to camp on the Levee road. We take our RV. ( I don't recommend pitching a tent). In the summer months it's extremely windy which makes the temperature drop at least 10 degrees so it's so nice and cool. There is a small beach area where it's nice to wade into the cold delta. There are many sports that can be enjoyed here as well. Kiteboarding, fishing... ok maybe only 2 sports. 😋 It's next to the quaint town of Rio Vista where there are a couple little restaurants to grab a bit to eat. It's definitely a charming place for a day trip or maybe just an overnight (if you have an RV). Enjoy

It is a fantastic place to go wind surfing, kite boarding, etc because of it's fast winds there. However, the overall management of the place could be better. I wasn't even an hour in and found all this trash lying around the small spot I was staying at. There has been so much littering over the past few months that it can be detrimental to the life there. Despite it being a great small place to take your family and friends to, the trash itself is unsightly. It contains shards of glass and fishing hooks which can really hurt someone or something. Luckily the nature around the area is bright and alluring. It's not my favorite place but it's not bad.

If you're a shore fisherman, you can park and fish alongside the road going to the park. If you're a boat or kayak fisherman, there's a launch at the end of the main road. We were targeting striped bass and caught a few shakers. Didn't catch anything worth writing home about, but it was still a fun time. Restrooms are also available in the park, too.

Great for wind sports. Flying a kite, kite and wind surfing etc as it is VERY windy (20-25 mph winds on average) The shoreline is very small, around 50 yards total with smaller areas depending on the tide. When the tide is up there is no "beach". The water is warm in late summer and there is a sandy bottom. Be prepared for weeds and things to brush up against your feet and legs if you decide to wade in. The shrubbery is mostly blackberry bushes which are delicious but full of thorns and the broken branches are often hidden in the sand. Wasps randomly sting park users and sand fleas and mosquitoes come out in massive swarms around dusk. The bathrooms are of the outhouse variety. There is a boat launch...

Great place to windsurf if your good. Learn in the playpen if you want to get good. Old school shop at Delta Windsurf down the road will get you set up with gear and lessons. 100$ for kids to use the windsurfing gear all summer. For $100 adults can use the gear for a month. Like a tropical beach when the frigid wind isnt blowing a gale. Watch out for the beginner kiters (kooks) who really, really, really shouldn't be there. They'll put you in danger and then yell at you. There kind of like the characters in a John Krakauer book. The local kite people are great folks and do a lot to maintain the park and love this magic place as much as I do. If you have free range kids who seek blackberries this is a...
