The ranch house is a museum which depicts the history of its owner, Alden B. Spooner. It is a small museum with a rich history. It takes about 20 minutes to experience, and there are souvenirs and other information about the area available. The museum is manned by volunteers, and is open limited hours. Best time to visit in early mornings.
A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT SPOONER. In the early 1890’s, Alden B. Spooner II established a farm, dairy, and hog raising operation on a portion of the land, ultimately purchasing it in 1902. By 1917 Spooner was working 9,000 acres with six miles of ocean frontage. Spooner built a ranch house, a reservoir, several barns, a creamery powered by a water wheel, stables, and sheds. As there were no roads to transport his goods to market, Spooner built a warehouse on the south bluff above Spooner’s Cove. Adjacent to the warehouse was a long chute reaching down to the ocean where goods could be loaded di- rectly onto ships. The Ranger who exited the building (and locked up behind himself) says that unpaid volunteers staff the House (not Park employees), and that the current hours and days they are actually open are unreliable and not accurately reflected here on Google

Read moreFascinating place! We really enjoyed touring the old Spooner Ranch House. The volunteer was very informative and this place has a lot of history. The house itself is lovely and the property surrounding is gorgeous. They even have a scavenger hunt for the kids to search for all the mini cow figures scattered about the house as you tour.
