Stand out winery in a grossly over saturated market. Beautiful gardens and landscaping, with a modern tasteful reception/tasting area. The wines, as well were all stand out in a unique creative wine making style rarely seen outside of the exclusive top French wineries.
The Rose was like nothing I've ever tasted outside of France. Delicate, floral, subtle, in a word singularly unique of any Rose I've tasted in the USA.
The signature Cabernet Sauvignon wines are original, new, but old school with a level of elegance I rarely taste under $200+ bottles.
The cuvee took me straight to Saint-Estephe. Violet, currant and spicy nose with an incredibly smooth opulent finish.
Their flag ship, " Georges III vineyard?" Was by far the home run. It was so rich, yet refined. Dark berries, espresso, smoky with smooth integrated tannins and a super long finish. I think I used the term "If the others were popular movie actors, this wine is the Sophia Loren!" Just so darned classy. Even more amazing was the vintage which I would have guessed to be a 2014 or 2015, but it was barely a toddler being a 2019. Can't imagine where this will be in 5-10 years.
The food pairings were so on point, seamlessly bringing out the best of each wine. Thoughtfully and meticulously prepared with fresh ingredients from the surrounding gardens.
I have to say, this is the first time in years where we have attended a tasting where we can honestly and without hesitation say that this was the most welcoming staff. I told them, and I'll post it here again. It's so easy to be nice, if you pay and train your staff enough, they can learn to be nice to the devil and his entire family. It is however; so rare to see "genuine" enthusiasm and commitment. It was clear that the staff from the gardener all the way through to the cooks and chef, truly loved what they were doing.
Enough said... Bravo Wheeler...
Read moreI was wowed at the great care in which Phillip, Emily, and the Wheeler Farm team provided me and my group when tasting here. The wines, the food pairings (really unique and carefully selected), the property, and the hospitality was top notch. We started our tasting out with a tour of the gardens and learned how much of the food grown is incorporated to onsite activities. Once the tasting began, we were impressed with the balance and elegance of the wines. We tasted some cabernets and cabernet-based blends. It was clear that these small-batch wines were thoughtfully made. They SANG with the food in unison. I can't wait to come back. I recommend this appointment-only winery for those who enjoy higher-end, small...
Read moreI highly recommend visiting Wheeler Farms! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a glass of wine and a small bite from the kitchen. We were given a short tour of the grounds, given the history of the property, and seated inside the tasting room.
We then had delicious small bites that were paired perfectly with our wine tasting, and we were blown away. The executive chef Thomas is an expert at what he does. The food complemented the wine in such a way that we've never tasted before. It made for a truly unforgettable experience.
