Marquette Park Beach — Attraction in Calumet Township

Completely awful experience here today. Drove 2 hours for a day trip with my family. When we got there and were about to get in the water with my 2 1 year old nieces in their floaties only to be stopped and told that the floaties are not allowed because “they could pop” which makes no sense. We were then told that no matter how deep they go my 2 older nephews (9 and 11) weren’t allowed in the water without someone near them. We were also told they were not allowed to go more than chest deep at all. While we were in the water and they were still at chest deep we were approached and told we needed to move because they were not chest deep even though they were. The lifeguards are constantly blowing their whistles and very aggressively telling people what to do. They would not even allow us within 40 feet of the buoys. Heavily monitored, friendly, they stopped to ask if I was in the pay parking before they started towing. It was our first time here, I described where we parked and they said that sounded like we were in the free parking, no worries. A life guard came to tell me I had to be by the wet part of the sand if a child was going into the water and later came back, apologized for "bothering us" but let me know that if a child was going to be over waist deep, I needed to be IN the water. Lol, I told mines to not go out so far bc no way was I going in! I don't think 5 minutes passed between lifeguards went by. 4 on rotation walking the beach, at least 2 on rotation walking IN the water, about adult waist deep, 2 on rotation on ATVs, and constantly a lifeguard in the chair, too far away to tell if it was the same one or rotating out while...

It used to be nice here but not anymore. We’ve been coming here for years with the kids using all kinds of inflatable floaties. Now the state of Indiana have decided for us that we are not allowed to use inflatables over here. And this is in a very calm day with no waves at all. “Life guards” walking everywhere harassing families with kids for their inflatables. Policeman driving 4x4’s every second completely destroying the feeling of being free at the beach with your family. This place sucks and is destroyed by the idiotic people who run this state who just dying to control everything.but cannot even fix the roads.
