The Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle is an absolutely stunning oasis that epitomizes the grandeur and vision of William Randolph Hearst. As one of the most iconic features of the estate, this breathtaking pool is a true masterpiece of architecture and design, seamlessly blending with the surrounding landscape.

Originally built in the 1920s, the Neptune Pool underwent several renovations, with the most significant one occurring in the 1930s. Hearst envisioned a lavish space that would not only provide a place for relaxation and recreation but also serve as a backdrop for extravagant gatherings. The pool is adorned with classical sculptures, ornate columns, and a stunning marble deck, all of which contribute to its enchanting atmosphere.

The design of the Neptune Pool reflects the Mediterranean Revival style that characterizes much of Hearst Castle. Its striking blue waters are surrounded by lush greenery and meticulously landscaped gardens, creating a serene and picturesque environment. The pool also features a stunning backdrop of the Santa Lucia Mountains, further enhancing the breathtaking views.

What truly sets the Neptune Pool apart is its unique architectural elements, including the grand terrace and the eye-catching statues that adorn the area. The pool has a remarkable depth of 105 feet, making it not only a visual delight but also a place where guests could enjoy leisurely swims.

Throughout its history, the Neptune Pool has been the site of lavish parties and gatherings, hosting many of Hearst's celebrity friends, including Hollywood icons. The allure of the pool continues to captivate visitors today, providing a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle that defined Hearst Castle.

When visiting Hearst Castle, taking a moment to soak in the beauty of the Neptune Pool is an absolute must. Whether you're lounging by the edge, snapping photos of the stunning surroundings, or simply enjoying the tranquility, the Neptune Pool offers an unforgettable experience that transports you to a bygone era of glamour and sophistication. I stood at the top of the stairs that overlooks the pool and felt a little like Al Pacino in Scarface haha...I visited in January when the clouds are low so it was even more breathtaking when a light mist continuously dances...

One thing that has happened recently is you can now pay to swim in the pool on select dates. Sadly the heating system is not used and I have been told the water is rather chilly as this is spring...
