I'll admit, I was afraid I may come here and offer a slightly biased review. I worked at ArborTrek for 4 summer seasons and I know first hand how much love and attention is poured into this business on a daily basis to make it run. I have seen all of the extensive hours of training, educating, building, and thought behind the scenes that go into providing the experience ArborTrek provides. That being said, when I worked here, I completed the zip line tour, but was too stunted by my fear of heights to even attempt the obstacle course or climbing. My kids, at the time, were not big enough to partake at that time, but I looked forward to being able to give them that experience (and conquer my own fears) when the time came.
Well, the time came. They are finally big enough to venture through the Apple Creek ArborTrek Junior course - and what a blast we had!! My oldest zipped through the course twice! My youngest went through once, was eager to go again, but wanted to save time for the climbing adventure which was also very well enjoyed. I enjoyed every single second on the course, so much so, I thoroughly considered coming back to work there (I live in another state now, though, so, unfortunately not feasible). Never once, despite my fear of heights, did I feel like I was at a risk. The guides did an incredible and thorough job of making sure we were competent in independently transferring from obstacle to obstacle that I felt very comfortable doing so in the trees. Rachel, who was our ground guide through the junior course (and new since I've worked there), was incredibly encouraging to the kiddos (and me), very thorough in her instruction, great at watching and observing what we were doing, and very caring and gentle. My youngest had a nervous belly and my oldest a sunburn where the harness sat, and she was very cognizant of both through the entire tour and made it a point to know our names.
I love this place, regardless, because of the near and dear place it holds in my heart. But, holy moley, does it fit in a whole new place in my heart now. It is incredible to find an establishment that treats both its guests and employees well and, to be able to see it from both perspectives, I can say ArborTrek achieves this goal. As an employee and as a guest, I felt seen, heard, and valued. The way they go above and beyond for their guest experience, and for their employees sets them apart as an adventure, no matter where you stand. The amount of passion for the art of adventure, customer service, and quality experience the staff hold from the bottom all the way to the top is what a will always set them apart from other experiences.
ArborTrek is a must-visit for your Vermont experience. We can't wait to go back and I, personally, am excited for my kids to be big enough for the Back 40 obstacles in...
Read moreThis is NOT the crazy 400 foot off the ground zip-line that follows the mountain ski trails!! This is a friendly tree-top experience in the woods where the zip-lines are anchored to trees with built-in platforms. If you want a family-friendly experience that doesn't scare the living hell out of you, this is for YOU. Our guides Isaac & Samantha were the epitome of kindness and they were very knowledgeable about the local ecology and the information about the trees was very much appreciated. Although Isaac apologized many times about the redundancy of his technical instructions, he stuck to his program and did not go off the narrative to seem "cool" to the old folks. LOL. They were both sweet young people and we enjoyed their company enormously. We had the good fortune to fly the zip-lines in the rain. Some might think that on the downside, but I'm just crazy enough to think it was a boon, as the bugs were practically non-existent and there was no issues from excessive heat. The trickiest part of the course was actually the rappel off the platforms. There's a tricky one-foot turn around that they teach you and the first time you do it, you feel like you have two left feet, but after you try it, you'll be an old pro and then you find the rappel to be slow and steady. Nothing at all to freak you out. In closing, all I can say is that we expected a great experience and we were NOT disappointed. God Bless the folks who started Arbor Trek and keep it running. I hope you have years of success with your business and keep improving it if you can. Take care! Love,...
Read moreArborTreck is loved by my friends here in Vermont and by the many that I know who come up to experience Vermont. At Eden Ethical Dog Sledding we often recommend families, individuals and couples to come here when they are looking for other interesting things to do in Vermont. I like to hike - but I am not that adventurous to be rock climbing, etc -and heights are not exactly my thing - so the idea of zip lining was not exactly on my bucket list.
BUT - when offered a non-refundable gift - -at age 65 I drove over to the Arbortrek which is near Smuggler's Notch resort. The staff were very helpful and I went through a general class on how to put on the equipment - and what to expect - then they took us out and demonstrated the overhead braking technique - and allowed us, with encouragement - to practice.
We then drove up to the top of the run in their tour bus. With good instruction and great attitudes - the staff helped each of us to understand each of the eight ziplines that take participants down the mountain. Although I was timid at first - soon I was flying along at each zipline - and loving it!
I am not sure that this bookish person will be back to try it again - but I recommend it to all - - and so many just LOVE IT! And to those who do ziplines around North America - - I have heard that this is one of their favorites!
As I look at my experience at ArborTreck - I realize that I crossed off one of the things on my Bucket List - I often have fond memories thinking about the various parts of the course and the experience...
