We love this park! We just finished our third camping trip for Labor Day.
The campground is one of the largest we go to but somehow so quiet. We love A loop. The campground beach puts others to shame. It's huge and the water is clean and it's not super deep. We spent two afternoons there.
We tried out some of the nature programs and the naturalist, John, was incredibly knowledgeable. We heard about snakes at the Nature Center and got to see a black rat snake.
That evening, we did the Bigfoot night hike and it was so fun!!! Learned a lot about how to look for Bigfoot and the history of sightings. We also heard a Barred Owl and a Great Horned Owl so that was really cool.
The next day we looked for critters in the creek and found a lot! Never saw a dragonfly nymph before! Also found a salamander, lots of crawfish and a green frog.
John made all the information easily digestible and the adults and kids enjoyed themselves equally!
Back to the campground, the showerhouses were clean with decent water pressure and hot water (unless someone flushes the toilet). They have very large showerhouses with 8 to 10 showers and washing machines.
Everyone at the camp store was very friendly. We loved the gem mining and found the $21 bag worth the money. Each kid that got one found a large geode. Very fun!
Overall, this park is amazing and we are so lucky to have...
Read moreI’ve been visiting Salt Fork State Park in Cambridge, Ohio, for over 30 years, and I am extremely disappointed with the condition of the cabins recently. For the price they are charging, the state of the accommodations is simply unacceptable. The electrical outlets have covers missing, exposing wires, which is a serious safety concern. The windows are filthy, and the porch screens are ripped and in terrible shape. It’s clear that maintenance has taken a backseat, and it’s frustrating given how much we’ve enjoyed this place in the past.
Additionally, the Wildlife Lounge and Timbers Restaurant are outrageously overpriced. They are gouging customers, and it’s hard to justify the prices, especially when the quality and service don’t match. The bartender at the Wildlife Lounge seemed overwhelmed and underprepared, likely due to the few patrons who ventured in. A shot of Bacardi costing $10.50 is simply excessive and feels like a cash grab.
Ever since the park was privatized, the overall experience has plummeted. It used to be a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature, but now it feels neglected and overcommercialized. I truly believe the state should take back control and restore the park to its former standards. Very...
Read moreI was absolutely devastated when we had an issue with our reservation this year. However, upon our arrival and discussing our issue with management, it was clear they were determined to make it right and they indeed did. Originally my review was going to be a pretty negative one, but in the end we had a wonderful time and they were sincere with their apology and you could tell they cared. We also noticed some positive changes during our stay. The restaurant food has improved significantly and wait staff were friendly (as they always have been in the past), but seemed better staffed than previous years. I also noticed the cleanliness of the lodge rooms and cabins. They were well kept and the staff we encountered were all very pleasant. The snack bar and staff at the sugar tree Marina were great too. In the end it was a wonderful trip and will continue to return to our special place. Thank you Justin, Matt and Madison for making things right. A special thank you to Travis at the front desk for his positive attitude and professionalism. We will be...
