Im going to share my experience. My father was sent here by ambulance from my house. The ems people said this was the best hospital for hearts. I have heard that and we have had no issue up until this point so he went there. In the er they treated him great he got a temp pacemaker put in and the staff was amazing. The trouble started when he got to the floor. When he passed out before he was sent there he also broke his leg. After they fixed the issue with his heart they handled his leg. He was to have surgery on his leg couple days after getting a pacemaker. Prior to the surgery the doctor who was performing the surgery came into the room numerous times and wanted his leg elevated and ice put on it. Multiple times when I arrived none of that was done. I brought it to the attention of the nurses and then it was done. He went for his surgery and it was successful I saw him around 6pm he was happy he was energetic he was ready to go home. I left around 8pm. My phone rings around midnight. Im told my father fell and is unresponsive. I rush to the hospital. One of the doctors on the floor says he was being walked to the bathroom and fell and he had a problem with his heart. The head nurse comes in and I ask why was he out of the bed in the middle of the night after a major leg surgery . Her response was well I didnât get him up maybe he shouldnât have been out of bed. The doctor in charge of the floor who was not on the floor at the time comes and tells the doctor who was there that my father did not fall and that maybe they shouldn't have done leg surgery so close to his pacemaker being put in. We went home obviously sad and we were to come up in the morning to get more information on what happened. Upon my arrival at 9 am I spoke to a patient advocate for about an hour. I raised concerns and she took notes and told me they would call when she got answers. I leave the hospital and I drive home. I live about 6 miles away. My phone rings. I am told they are sorry but My father was moved in the middle of the night to virtua Vorhees. I go to that hospital and I get to identify it was him. I speak to multiple people. One lady I speak to shows me a paper of what happened and on the paper it says he fell on the way to the bathroom. I explain that Nobody informed me he was being moved or moved and we requested an autopsy when he died so he should have not been moved. She once again days she will get answers. After 4 calls over the next 3 days from multiple doctors and a head nurse all blaming each other my fathers body was released. The funeral went to pick him up. They were told it was not released yet. The head doctor of the floor calls at about 9 pm on the 4th night. He again is blaming others. The next morning he was finally released the head doctor signed off on it. We get the medical documents for his hospital say. Surprise the document that said he fell was changed to he never got out of bed. Multiple people told us what happened but somehow that changed.
There was a lot that happened over this horrible week back in July. A lot of details that I donât want to type out but my purpose of this story is to inform anyone dealing with this hospital to make sure everything is well documented and you have copies of everything. We were given papers that were supposedly signed by my dad but it wasnât his signature. We were told multiple stories of what happened over multiple days. My father was moved without us being told. Doctors all blamed each other. Releasing his body was delayed so the doctor on the floor could call and try and explain what happened even though he was not there. The autopsy was filled out wrong multiple times. I personally would never go to this...
Read moreAmy E, charge nurse in maternity at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, is one of the most ignorant and obnoxious people I've ever met. My daughter, who is 20,was kept an extra day due to a high fever and high blood pressure. Her blood pressure was 183/98. Amy, who was well aware of her blood pressure and also got a high reading, proceeded to come in her room minutes after taking this reading to start cleaning up which we appreciated. The baby had pooped and it got on his sleeper and the hospital blanket. I had them in the corner and was going to scrub everything out. When I told her she could leave the clothes because I needed to scrub them out she replied as rudely as possible, well I'm taking these, they are OUR hospital blankets. My daughter became so upset she asked me to request another nurse. When I asked if we could switch nurses due to my daughter's high blood pressure all Amy responded with is I'm calling security. Calling security to have me removed when I was trying to keep my daughter from being upset and her blood pressure going even higher. She also proceeded to tell me how she is the best nurse on that floor and that I could ask anyone. Amy obviously has a self esteem issue, a narcissistic personality disorder and a bruised ego which she projects onto her patients. Along with that she made a statement that she spoke to the day nurses and knew all about us. Every nurse we dealt with prior to her made it a point to tell us how loving of a family we were and that my daughter and her boyfriend were lucky to have such a strong support system. Her kids probably hate her and shes bitter towards mothers who have a bond with their children. She also made a statement that the father should go home because he was wasn't doing anything but sleeping when she went in the room although she had just started her shift and had no idea that the father stayed up all night and majority of the day helping take care of the baby. As I write this she came in once again and had another nurse come in seconds later asking if everything was OK, looking dead at me, as if I was the rude snarky one. To put the icing on the cake.. I was rushed to the er from maternity earlier in the day because my blood pressure was as high as my daughters. One of the day nurses Sonja, who is an absolute angel, seen me distraught and took my blood pressure then took me straight to er, giving me her phone number to call her when i was being discharged so she could get me back up to my daughter faster. Amy knew this because when I said I was worried about my daughters high blood pressure she said you should be worried about yours weren't you rushed to the er, again snarky and ignorant as all hell. There were quite a few more nasty comments and interactions with her but these are the worst of the bunch. This woman should be working in the morge with her dead cold heart not on a floor with so much joy. Every other nurse we encountered through our 4 day stay was absolutely amazing. Top notch nurses. I had nothing but amazing thoughts about our stay and our nurses until now. It only takes one to ruin it all and she definitely did that. This was a Sunday night so hope and pray that if you are using this hospital you are out of there by Sunday before 7 pm.
The joy and happiness every mother should have during their first few days of bonding with their newborn baby was stolen from my daughter by this woman. As much as I would love to recommend this hospital for labor and delivery due to the amazing nurses there sadly I can not because of Amy. My voice will be heard. Amy will be known for what...

On January 6, 2025, I survived a violent home invasionâonly to be nearly killed by the discrimination and medical neglect I experienced at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ.
That night, I was pistol-whipped in the face seven times by an armed intruder. I lost consciousness, bled out on the floor, and was rushed to the ER by ambulance around 8:30â9:00 PM. I arrived with visible trauma, facial wounds, and braces in my mouthâclearly injured and in severe pain. I told staff I had lost consciousness and feared infection, yet they completely disregarded the urgency of my condition.
Instead of care, I was judged and dismissed.
Camden is an under-resourced, low-income community with high rates of drug activity and addiction-related ER visits. I was wrongfully profiled as âjust another junkieâ looking for a fixâwhen in reality, I was a trauma victim in need of emergency care. The hospital staff assumed the worst based on the circumstances of my community and never took the time to understand what had happened to me.
Nurse Megan denied me pain relief until I begged. When she finally administered Toradol, she did so forcefully, causing burning and pain, then rolled her eyes and said, âThis is all youâll get.â Dr. DâAmelio, the physician on duty, barely looked at me and rolled his eyes when the nurse explained the situationâtreating me like I didnât matter. Even her voice runs repeatedly â she claims 4 men came into her house and robbed herâ They discharged me with only ibuprofen. No antibiotics. No tetanus shot. No trauma resources. No compassion.
By January 10, I was bleeding and oozing pus from my mouth. I was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery. On January 11, I was officially diagnosed with a serious facial abscess that could have entered my bloodstream and killed me. The care I begged for at Lourdesâbasic antibiotics and wound treatmentâcould have prevented it.
Our Lady of Lourdes receives federal funding to serve victims in Camden, yet they treated me like a statistic. I filed a complaint and was contacted by the ER president, but no apology was ever given. No one was held accountable.
Since then, Iâve been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I now live with permanent scar tissue and a distorted smileâsomething that once brought me joy and confidence. The emotional and physical damage from that night still affects me every day.
If youâre from Camden or any underserved community, do not go to this hospital. They judged me by my ZIP code and nearly let me die. I was not a junkie. I was a victim. And...
