I want to say first of all, read all of the rules. Very strict about the rules and will come around and make sure every 30 minutes.
I completely understand why they need to be enforced.
Our family just wanted a CAMPING experience with our children & fur babies.
This was not it. I remember when I was child and camped out. We had put up a stringer with clothes and towels to dry. I get it, we respect nature. Only temporary. To be told we couldn't do it is ridiculous. Putting a hammocks and the weight of person on two trees is allowed? Wait. Two inch nylon is allowed?! Again, it supports the weight of a person why not clothes?
We just wanted to sit on a tailgate, husband backed his vehicle just off the forbidden gravel path to sit on a tailgate. DON'T DO IT. You will be asked to move.
At this point it we already felt dirty rule breakers and unwelcomed.
My fur babies, I love me some fur babies. They are my own, I'm a responsible, respectful dog owner. We brought a tie out for them as well. My dogs are older, well behaved. Don't expect me to have them tie down the whole entire time. Don't come to me about other people dogs and their safety and kids safety. AGAIN I use common sense. Four kids of all ages running around with a tiny space for camping as it is. Talk about trip hazard with two dogs on leads. Hmm?
I was really afraid of them coming at us every moved we made and just really not enjoyable. Note, that we booked a non busy day on purpose to be outside, to feel secluded and not to be a bother. To AVOID this make sure you know ALL the rules.
Some may like the style of camping but what happened to just winging it ?
Looks like back yard camping instead of Missouri parks it is.
Two stars you...
Read moreWe have camped at Wallace State Park twice this year. We were impressed with the clean restrooms and showers and the condition of the park. Grassy areas are kept mowed and the woodsy tenting areas are well maintained. We were in site 45 this weekend, a more secluded-looking site. We had electricity (to keep the phones charged), a fire pit, a tent pad, a gravel pad for an RV or trailer, a covered picnic table, ticks, raccoons, owls, deer, coyotes, mosquitos, flies, spiders....all the things that make for a truly outdoor experience.
We are tent campers with not enough experience to lock our food in the Jeep at night. Raccoons are really smart and know how to get into a cooler. They like chocolate and Kelloggs Red Berry cereal for sure and found a few other treats in our garbage bag.....lesson learned! They didn't stay around to help us clean up the mess.
There are plenty of hiking trails, a lake for swimming and maybe fishing. One side of the park is designated for day use, picnics, etc.
We met our hosts, a very nice couple who spend a week or two at a state park as volunteers and then maybe move to another park. There were two volunteer couples at the park on both our trips.
You feel like you've been away from it all after a short couple of days in the woods. The smell of wood smoke drifting through the trees, the wild life that you never see in your back yard.....s'mores, ahhhhhh!
We love Wallace. Missouri has many beautiful state parks. We'll explore a little further from...
Read moreSpent several days camping at this State Park, and overall the experience was a positive one. To begin with, all their campsite locations were well maintained, and reasonably priced to use. Each site had a place to park a vehicle, a fire pit, and a place to set up one's area to rest in for the night. I ended up using one of the Basic Campsites, as I did not need to use any electricity that was offered at the other campsites, nor did I have a trailer or RV that I would need to set up at the 50amp campsites. At the basic campsite, I had access to a picnic table, a fire pit to cook my meals, as well as a wood mulch area to set up my tent, that provided a little cushion that simply camping on dirt ground does not provide. The main attraction for this Park seems to be its trails, as Wallace State Park had several to traverse. The trails seemed to be well maintained, save a few branches and a tree that had fallen at some point, and provided many excellent views, as well as opportunities to view the wildlife. While I could have taken two days to walk them all, I was able to use up an entire day to walk all the trails the park offered. While I did not stay long enough to partake in it, I was pleased to see that the park was still offering programs and events on a regular basis, and they had an entire section of the park dedicated to Scout Use, allowing this Park to offer a little something...
