This review is for the Mountain bike trails: It's hard to be critical of any of the trails around here. Everyone does such a great job keeping them up! This trail is no exception, it was well maintained, and they obviously have a good bike crowd come often. Port-a-potties were clean. Seems like the trails are regularly used by trail-runners and school groups, so watch for those not on two wheels ;-)
The trail itself was windy and hilly and rooty, exactly what you'd expect from a quality Michigan trail. What makes this a bit different is the ability to take side loops off the main trail and make your ride as long or short as you like. There were a couple challenging sections, but mostly I think it falls into the medium category. There is one high-speed run (I believe this is part of the "black" loop) between a narrow row of pine trees which is really awesome and unique to see the trees go flying by, but keep those handbars straight!
Worth the drive to take a ride on a nice day and mere minutes from Merrill trail, another really great ride...
Read moreThis is one of the better park/trails I’ve been on. It has its pros and cons. Pros: Has great range of different trails that range in difficulty. Trails are marked extensively so it’s easy to understand where to go. Has a great variety of wooded, prairie, and wetland areas. Thus there are some super great spots to take nature photos.
Cons While it is dog-friendly I wouldn’t necessarily recommend taking your dog. There are a lot of bikers and the trails are wide enough in some spots for it to be easy to make space for the cyclist to pass without you having to go into the foliage. I went on the blue and green trails and there was no trash at any point except the beginning. I normally don’t care about this but when you have a dog and they go to the bathroom… Yeah, you have to carry it the rest of the trail walk.
Overall, it’s a well-maintained park that has a clear community that loves to use the trails here. If you live in the area, I recommend...
Read moreWow, this is an awesome park!! It has a very nice, wide open parking lot with tons of green space, bike hangers, picnic tables, two changing rooms and currently one port-o-john. The trails themselves were quite a bit of fun, enough so that after the first loop. I felt it was necessary to do it two more times. And being an experienced rider the trails offer the well balanced mix of technical challenges (I.E. plenty of roots throughout plus a little rock challenge on the yellow loop!), uphill climbing and flow sections. Additionally there are four separate loops, three of which are rated difficult and the fourth is intermediate skill. All of which are connected by a main inner loop that is fine for the kiddos and families. Otherwise enjoy your trip, I didn't notice water access but there is a bike tire pump and repaired station at the trail head just bring the water, bug spray, sunscreen and food...
