I recently visited a charming little park that I thoroughly enjoyed. The park is located by Parrish Mill pond of 15 Mile Creek, and the highlight of the park is the unique combo mill and covered bridge from 1880 that has been nicely restored. The museum sign over the doors adds a historical touch to the place.
However, I do have a couple of complaints. Although Georgia took the effort to install glass windows to view the operational part of the mill, the glass was dirty from the inside, and there were no lights inside the room. Additionally, there were no display or historical signs, and the rooms were virtually empty, despite having the largest windows. Even the auxiliary diesel added at the beginning of the last century and one of the turbines on the outside had no information available.
To get a better understanding of the history of the park, I recommend picking up a printed history from the gift shop first. Speaking of the gift shop, it was pretty useless in terms of commodities for campers, and there were few snacks or drinks available. They only had a small assortment of souvenir trinkets.
Fortunately, the park offers canoe and kayak rentals, although reservations are needed during peak season. There are also hiking trails available to explore, and the pond is a typical Cyprus Pond, home to a variety of animals. The park also provides RV and cottage rentals, as well as primitive and hook-up campsites. Additionally, there are picnic areas, tables, and an event center with a kitchen. Overall, it was a lovely place to visit, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy nature...
Read moreWe set up our RV for a night on our way home from a trip. Staff was super helpful, site was easy to locate and back into. All hookups worked as they should, and the bath house was squeaky clean, with good water pressure and hot showers. The scenery is beautiful, 400+ acre lake full of cedars, and lots of fish showing on sonar.
There are trails, and this is where my deduction of one star comes in. After crossing the dam thru the old mill house, you'll find a big sign with a map of their 3.1 mile loop. There's a shortcut straight thru the loop, and a prominently marked spring if you take a right around the loop. Lemme tell you, I wanted to see this spring, and maybe soak my tired feet in it. We walked. And walked. And then just to be sure, we walked some more in search of this mythical fount. I aged about three years looking for this spring. I broke out Google Maps, and found a little body of water not too far ahead. So we walked some more. That body of water never materialized, even when Maps showed I should be up to my nethers in it. Eventually, we were back where we started, looking at this stupid sign, and its stupid markings for a spring. Part of me even considered another little trek to where it should be according to this colorful map. Reason won out, and we headed back to the camper.
We checked out soon after, and I asked about the spring. Brothers and Sisters, the response from that nice lady behind the plexiglass barrier made me question my commitment to being a kind and gentle human being. THERE IS NO SPRING. IT DRIED UP. I don't wanna live in this...
