I came here just after the park opened, in late April. Maybe it was too early and the park wasn't finished yet, but I wasn't impressed with the trails, which definitely seem more geared for mountain biking (though you certainly CAN hike on them). Just stay to the side of the trail so you don't get run over! The hike itself was pretty steep, several switchbacks, and not a whole lot to look at. It was kind of cool seeing highway 19/23 hundreds of feet below the ridge through the trees, but I imagine in summer when the trees have fully leafed out, you probably couldn't even see that. You kind of expect some kind of reward for such a steep climb (though it was pretty short) -- but alas, there was nothing to see at the top either. There might be some nice views if some of the trees were cleared, and maybe that is in the plans. But on the day I went, I was greeted at the top by the hub where all the biking trails leave from -- and about 25 bikers, and no views.

I gave this review three stars based on the fact Chestnut mountain does seem to cater more to bikers than hikers, and they would not be looking for the same things I would be, as a hiker. It was also not...

Extremely disappointed. It is supposed to be open 7 days a week, but was closed the day we arrived. It was a four hour round trip drive for nothing. My son was so excited to go here, because he watches all of Seth’s videos. He was almost in tears.

I called the phone number which goes to city hall. The lady who answered acted like it was our fault for not signing up for text messages… We live in Florida. I asked her why it was closed, and she said there was rain in the forecast. It was an absolutely beautiful day. A check of my iPhone showed a 10% chance of rain in the afternoon. If that is the criteria, it wouldn’t be open for weeks straight in the summer.

Updated: Not a drop of rain in days and it is still closed! We have been in NC for a week and a half now. It hasn’t been open a single day. The trails in the national forest have been in amazing condition. Shame on them for keeping this park closed and ruining my...

Paper Town Canton N.C. impressive new built Chestnut Mountain Nature Park. Look at the size of this parking lot, wow. Yes, handicapped parking but it is a gravel lot, which would be hard for wheelchair folks. ♿️ There are "restrooms" I mean port a Jon's. Being a "Nature Park" I was bewildered with a sign posted at the entrance of Ed two trails near the tables? It said "Bear Country" and posted with the sign was another one, "do not enter"? Humm? Well, just walk the other trail called "Paper Town" it is only ten feet away. Perhaps bears won't get you on that trail? Because of the time of day, I only walked up to the trailhead and back to the car. Chestnut Mountain Nature Park, look like a great park. Hey if my review helped you, please select LIKE. Have a great 🍂 Autumn 🍂.

The bike trails are fantastic and maintained regularly. The same goes for the hiking trails. Aside from the access trail (Papertown Express) and Turnpike the bike trails are for only bikes and the hiking trails are for only pedestrian traffic. The views from certain points are magnificent! And I have yet to find a spot that does not have at least a little cell service, which makes this place a unicorn. Chestnut Mountain is an absolute gem of a park. Well done, Canton!

Really nicely groomed tails for hiking and biking. With that being said you should always be AWARE of bikes on the same trail. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Since the trail is perpendicular to the highway there’s alot of traffic noise but the hike is still worth it. Port a pots at the parking lot and picnic tables too. When you reach the summit there are several options and great loop/jump trails for bikes. All well marked. Easy hike with a fairly steep ascent.
