Sides Pea Farm in Canton, TX is dishonest, uncaring, and rude. No peas for my toddler. The owner I spoke with, Virginia, told me a week and a half ago I could order several 15# bags of unshelled peas for $52/ea, that they were completely unsprayed with nothing put on them at all, ever, and I just needed to give her a day's notice. I explained we carry an EpiPen and there was a chance my daughter could have an anaphylactic reaction to sprays, and she still stuck by that story. I told her we needed unshelled to lessen the risk of cross contamination for my daughter's safety, and she said that was fine. I called Friday to give 3 day's notice that I was buying 5 bags, ya know, a $260 order, and driving out Monday morning. No call back, so I postponed my trip til tomorrow and called again today. Virginia told me she wouldn't sell me unshelled peas because people buy them unshelled and return them, saying they want them shelled now. I assured her that I needed them unshelled and wouldn't return them and reminded her of my daughter's allergies. She cut me off, saying she remembered me. I asked what the bags were made of, and she said she didnt know. I asked if they were like burlap or more like plastic, and she said she didnt know, they were like cabbage bags that were delivered to grocery stores, and did I know what those were. I told her I didn't, and she just got short and told me, "Well, I dont know what to tell you." I confirmed the $52/bag price, but she said they were $55/bag and always had been. I wrote down the $52/bag price when I spoke with her last and even asked a second time to make sure I wrote it down correctly. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and said maybe I wrote it down wrong (I didn't.) So I asked again to confirm that they were completely unsprayed, and she said, "Well, they're supposed to be." I said I couldn't chance sprays, and she said she gets them from different people, and her farmers weren't supposed to do anything to them but she didn't know. At this point she had been so rude to me for awhile, but I just kept being sweet and trying to make this work for my precious daughter. I finally replied, "Well that would have been good information to have before I gathered up $250 dollars to buy peas from you! When I spoke with you last week, you didn't mention any of that." She said she'd rather not sell them to me anyway and hung up on me! I called back, and of course they won't answer now. I left a long message, but they won't call back, so here is my public service announcement. Don't buy from Sides Pea Farm. Support honest farming. They sell to the Grapevine Farmers Market...
