Star Hill Golf Club — Attraction in Cape Carteret

To whom it may concern,

On 6/16/21 around 5:30 pm I went to play golf with a friend of mine. I have played Starr Hill several times over the course of my 20 years coming to Carteret county and my recent 3 years of living here. I have thought about becoming a "limited" member because playing after 2:00 pm is my MO. In the past 3 months my sons and I have come over and played probably 12 times in 9 hole increments at a price of $26.00 per 9 holes after 4:00 pm. Yesterday I was charged $80.00 for 2 via 9 holes. In my opinion you need to publish your 9 hole rate and don't let it be subject to what the person in the pro shop wants to charge a non-member. I actually have filled out the paperwork for the membership, but after yesterday and the tone the gentleman in the pro-shop had when I was trying to get clarification, I do not know if this is the place I would want to join. I have several friends who are members there along with property owners so I am going to do my research to find out if this is normal...

A friend and I have played this course several times a year. One week prior to our trip, I went on the internet to get the phone number to book our t-time and was directed to the website to book the time online with a discount. I booked the time and when we arrived to check in. Well, you would think we had greatly insulted by booking online. We were only able to play 6 holes before the rain moved in and we had to quit. When we returned to the Club house to check on continuing the next day. We were met with a rude lecture on no rain checks if you book online. We knew that going in and wanted to see what our options would be. If the attendant had not been set on rudely, expressing his point, he would have heard that. Other than the nice and pleasant girl at the snack bar, the rudest staff I have ever experienced! IF YOU DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO BOOK ONLINE REMOVE THE SITE, BUT DONT WORRY I DON'T PLAN TO BOOK THERE AGAIN! FYI, This is the first negative review I have ever written, but the rude behavior...

The only reason it gets 2 stars is because the fairways were super nice. The greens were the worst greens I've ever seen. I wouldn't pay 20 to play this course. The man in pro shop said they had been aerated so we got a cheaper rate. Aeration didn't describe the greens. They were completely dead for the most part. Putting was near impossible. There were sand traps in the middle of most greens. The 2nd hole green was a low spot cut in the rough off the side of what used to be a green. I wanted to turn around after that and ask for a refund. I thought the greens would get better. It did not. Looks like a course that was closed for yrs, someone bought it, and opened it back up after cutting the grass. A waste of my money and time. Worst course I've ever played out of close to 100...
