This is just a stop by the side of the road where you can get a close look at the lava fields and how the vegetation has been able to grow within them. There are no trails, but you could walk on your own, although very carefully, not only because of rattlesnakes, but also because the terrain is really rough. You could end up either with a twisted ankle or destroyed shoes (you have been warned 🙂). There are trails nearby that are a better option.    Read moreThis is actually a pretty interesting spot. There is a turn off where you can park and explore a little. Be careful there are lots of cacti and other prickly plants. We enjoyed looking at the lava flows. I do wish there wasn't as much trash around, but a lot of people are inconsiderate of others....
