We finally got here after wanting to go for over a year. Overall, I thought it was a really neat concept and experience, and I had a pleasant time. I just wanted to share a bit about our experience for those travelers who appreciate knowing more about new places before they go.
Use your GPS/google maps to see Bower Garden on the map and to find the mailbox of the couple who live there. It IS NOT well marked and would be very easy to drive past. Parking is also not well marked and is a grassy rectangle away from the residence marked with a very small green parking arrow.
I'd recommend bringing a bag or backpack with snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and hat. Walking poles aren't a bad idea either.
There is a porta potty near the parking area only open from may-Sept.
My almost 6yr old and 2 yr old as well as my 70 something parents walked the majority of the trails and also enjoyed themselves looking at the wildlife, plants , and sculptures. I would have loved to have seen a little more interactive section at the end...maybe the simulated water areas for the kids or little ones. I think they would have really loved that, but that section was a little underwhelming as it was VERY mucky(standing water) etc. We arrived around 10 a.m. and were done a little before 12 p.m. even with a small snack break along the trail.
A good portions of the trails are in shade which was really nice with the tree cover but be aware that with the trees overhead and quite a bit of tall grasses on the property, you should protect yourself with promethrin to prevent ticks and where protective clothing. Both of my children had ticks on them and that was with a bit of bug spray on each of us. One I found while there. The other at home.
Following our visit, we headed down the road to Grandpa's Love Shack (a BBQ restaurant) and had a really wonderful lunch! BYOB! So plan ahead! Check hours before you go as they were only open later in the week.
Overall, I would recommend The Bower Garden as a free interesting spot to walk or sit in nature and enjoy beautiful artwork for adults and children alike. I plan to visit again in a different...
Read moreWe visited with a group of friends, were happy there's a portable toilet available for visitors and maps as well. The maps were very helpful. We were able to walk the woodland trail and see all sculptures within 2 hours. Beautiful place. Beware there's no sign on the main road, just a mailbox with the name of the owners on it - Allis and when you turn by the mailbox you will see the driveway and the shed with the Porta-potty and the...
Read moreIt's a lovely place to enjoy nature, sculptures and native plants. My husband and I plan to come back when the weather is cooler to see what we missed. The artists work was so amazing as their interpretation of the site we thanks the Bowers for opening up and sharing the beauty!
There were benches and chairs to sit and enjoy the site and you don't have to hurry just take a leisurely stoll. So...
