Cannon Park — Attraction in Carterville

My daughter loves the park and it is much more clean than the ones in Carbondale,we drive from Makanda just to come here. It has a dog park,trail,field to play in,bathrooms, is handicap accessible and friendly people usually. Only down sides is our drive,and met a few unfriendly dogs at the dog park that didn't like my daughter whom is 8 and was trying to sit quietly reading a book it kept coming up growling at her and the owner just walked away with her eyes glued to her phone carelessly allowing her dog to go after other dogs and trying to go after my daughter. I think they should have someone patrol the park and the dog park regularly so it could be alil more safe at the dog park. Very upset about Cannon Park's dog park. I was so excited to bring my dog there because I had heard how nice it was, but I was very disappointed. When I got to the park I noticed that the approximately 20 ft towards the back fence was all high grass and had not been mowed in a very long time. I refused to take my dog off her lease because even though I use tick and flea medication I did not want to chance her or myself getting a tick from being in all the high grass. Not to mention if for some reason I did have to go retrieve my dog in the high grass it is impossible to tell where another dog may have pooped, or even if there is poison ivy on the ground. When moving to Carterville recently, I was probably most excited about being in such close proximity to a park such as Cannon Park. I'm there every other day walking my dog and visiting the dog park. Everyone I meet alongside the pond trail is friendly. The recent addition of the dog park has been a lifesaver with an energetic puppy. The park is generally clean and has a plentiful amount of accessible trash cans and stations for dog waste, which is super convenient.
