Spent about half a day here exploring. I had seen it in an online travel article and was nearby for work, so I made a special trip.
Best plus: no admission fee. The area was very nice, and geographically speaking it was beautiful. This would be a great place for families to take day trips, or even have reunions or birthday parties. There are a few good sized pavillions, but be warned there is only one single bathroom nearby, and they have a serious wasp problem. There was also an interesting but unstaffed nature center. There are hiking trails, but I did not hike during my time there.
All of that said, the reality of the park compared to my expectations was a bit disappointing. The design of the campground (wooden platforms built into a hill) was very interesting, however it would definitely be challenging for larger rigs or inexperienced RVers to navigate. Despite all the beautiful water there were no clearly designated swimming areas that I could find. There was a very large marina with MANY boats docked. Also, the picturesque lake view is currently dominated by some sort of loud and visually disruptive construction.
TL;DR: Great for boaters, small RV/tent campers, and families. As a frequent traveler and conessiouer of state parks all over the country, slightly below average experience. Great for those nearby, but for me not worth the extra 50...
Β Β Β Read moreIt was such a beautiful and amazing place! We absolutely loved it and my son had a lot of fun. The only complaint/suggestion is that there were ppl with their truck speakers to full volume. It was so annoying and disrupting it was just horrible. In that peaceful, quiet place all you are suppoused to hear is nature. That's exactly the reason why ppl go to those places to have peace and quiet, get away from noise, stress, disruption, etc. And instead of peace and quiet, and nature all you could hear was some rock/punk band playing from some truck. Ppl are just ridiculous and inconsiderate. I don't mind if ppl play some music that maybe part of the fun and having a good time, but keep your music to yourself. Respect other ppls space and relaxing time. Music can be played in a volume hight enough for you to enjoy it and low enough that it doesn't bother other ppl and let other ppl enjoy their quiet and relaxing! time as well. Remeber everyone payed to be there and everyone should be able to enjoy their time away. The park rangers or administration of the park should have more control on what they allow ppl to do, patrol more often to check on ppl, to keep the park enjoyable for everyone and enforce or make more strict rules to keep the peace. Hopefully next time I go back, we have a better experience, bc it is an amazingly...
Β Β Β Read moreEdger Evins is one of our favorite campgrounds. We only came for over night this time. Road off of I-40 is two lane. Not bad. It leads to the Caney Fork Canoe Rental, but double check me on the name. When you get to the park entrance my new Garmin said it could not verify the ability to travel with our RV in this location. We did not have any troubles and in my pictures you'll see there were bigger rigs than our Class A Vegas 27ft, 11 high. I did see some low wires crossing the road in the park, so I'd check before I brought something in that is extra tall. The sites are back in on deck, so they are all flat. Some back up to the water. The road grade was near 10% in some spots. We had water and Electric, and the dump is as you are leaving. Camp store, Visitor Center, Integrative Center, During Summer Season the Park Marina has a restaurant, playground and store. Lots of Cabins, boat docks. We are planning to come back real soon for a three day weekend. Bring your boat, lots of fishing on this upper lake. The customer service at the visitor center are really helpful. Has a fire ring and grille up front near the road, enough room for chairs with a view. Of course they have bath houses. I know I probably missed some of the good stuff, but hope this helps. Thanks Edgar Evins for the...
