Wow! Where do I start? We were visiting SoHa this weekend and called Bumbleberry Acres to see if we could buy some pumpkins & gourds. The store was closed but Beth, one of the owners, agreed to meet us anyway. I knew we were off to a great start when I heard that. So when we got there Beth took us out on a private tour in a tractor-pulled wagon to see several different varieties of pumpkins & gourds. And off we went, the whole while educating us on the pumpkins, how cut them, their names (Cinderella Pumpkin, Turban, Starfish, Acorn Squash). My husband and I got out of the wagon and searched for the prettiest ones we could find. Beth told us to leave them on the outside of the patch and she'd drive the tractor around to pick them up. I think we stopped at at least 8 different patches and we ended up with about 13 large pumpkins/gourds and a whole bushel basket of smaller gourds. On the way back we learned all about blueberry farming, the 125 plus varieties, how many an average acre produces, the life cycle of a blueberry bush, how frost affects them in early spring. It was all so very fascinating. And Beth is so easy to listen to being a former teacher but she also has the most charming southern drawl. After about 90 minutes we had all the pumpkins and gourds we wanted. And Beth wiped them all off with a towel! When we got back we met Brian, her husband, the other owner - they're a hard working husband and wife team. Brian and my husband got to talking about technical stuff and Beth showed me their wonderfully creative store - a dream for someone like me who loves canning and baking. I purchased a pint of Apple Butter and then Beth very kindly gifted me with some Pineapple and Raspberry Salsa. The bakery was closed but you can bet we'll be back tomorrow for some Lemon Blueberry Cookies and maybe one of their Blueberry Pies. What a wonderful couple! We had such a fun time with Beth. She is the most customer-focused owner I have ever met. Bumbleberry Acres is a can't miss. There's something new every weekend for your family to enjoy. Thanks so much for everything, Beth and Brian. We had such a great time it really makes us want...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām going to give Bumbleberry Acres 5-stars, but itās a stretch. The pandemic has been so hard on these small businesses.
There were only two other families visiting on the Tuesday in July. Very quiet and just a short drive from Downtown South Haven.
The young lady who introduced us to the pigs, goats, rabbits and donkeys was truly sweet. Just a great attitude! She also drove the tractor and gave such a nice narration of the crops along the way.
The only thing that costs money this time of year are the train ride, just $1! There is an outdoor wash station, a no-frills play yard, and a small market that was filled this time with delicious blueberries. U-Pick wasnāt ready yet, but opening soon. I bought blueberry donuts, and they were a least several days old. Disappointing. The fresh blueberries are delish! It is disheartening to see so many āMade in Chinaā gifts in their shop, but I think thatās happening everywhere.
The grounds are laid back. I feel like this place could be a real destination for families with just a little more investment. Lewisā Farm further north holds our top spot as a farm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest family time we had all Fall! We will certainly return next year. As Grandparents we took the grandchildren 3&1yrs old with their mom. We were given attention that made us feel special! On a Sunday morning we went on a wagon( hayride ) with the owners. She told us about the family farm and business while the husband drove us. She made him stop so our grand daughter could run and spend a few minutes in the bouncy house. ( We didn't buy tickets for that one activity but our granddaughter was so excited when she saw it!) That was so sweet! The corn maze was fun and love that there was a small maze perfect with our little grandkids and a longer one. I'm not sure we can pick a favorite thing because our 3 yr old granddaughter was all smiles when she was on the pony ride and the tractor ride w the barrels and making a strike w the pumpkin bowling! The cider and doughnuts was a real treat but we adults all loved the taste test of Honey crisp vs SweetTango! It was a real surprise which one we liked! . The last thing was visiting the farm animals. We never thought that the 40min. ride would turn out to...
