Really disappointed in the campground areas of this park. My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights after staying at Half Moon Pond for 2 nights. The atmosphere between the 2 parks are night and day, which was expected - what was not expected was the care (or lack there of) taken in upkeep of the campground. At Bomoseen, the sites were not well taken care of before/after groups stayed on them. We were on site 28, and it had very clearly suffered after a recent storm. But all the cigarette butts, plastic toys, and other odds and ends of garbage we found washed down the stream, and ended in that site, could have easily been cleaned up with a raking. Not only did we pick up a few dozen pieces of trash, but there were also 4 trash bags behind our fire pit. When I asked the staff if they could swing by and pick them up, the Manager, Bill, came and was surprised to see them, discovered they were full of sand, and were an unsuccessful attempt to divert overflowing stream water from washing out our site in a storm. While Bill agreed they looked as though they had been there a while, he himself had never seen them before. In addition to the lack of care taken on the sites, the bathrooms and showers were also not well cared for. Yes, it was the weekend, but running out of toilet paper and just generally being much worse for the wear than other state park bathrooms, was unexpected with so many staff AND campground volunteers. I know this park is well liked for its day use, and the beach is stunning with its views, a great playground, snack bar and rentals, but they very clearly need to put more effort into the camping areas. With more cared for campgrounds in the area, we won't be back...
Read moreDon't bother camping in Vermont state parks anymore. You cant even bring your own fire wood. I cut down a tree in my own backyard in the middle of Rutland city and they wouldn't let burn it at the camp site. I filled my truck bed when we went camping last summer and when i got there my options were to leave it for them and buy their tiny bundles of dried out garbage that would burn for 30 seconds or drive all the way home to drop my wood off and then drive all the way back and still buy their garbage wood. Also the local stores have wood, but you get 6 pieces of small dried out pieces for 13 dollars. Never thought they'd find a way to scam us while just...
Read moreI went to the state park on Sunday September 1st 2024. My fiancé found a saw blade under the dirt at the bottom of the slide facing a bench. We collected it and brought it up to a lady who worked there. (Older lady with straight gray/blonde hair) when my fiancé brought this to her attention she took it, put it in her back pocket (how unsafe smh). Proceeds to turn away and said, “well it wasn’t there this morning.” Okay well ma’am, we have 3 kids under 4 years old. We didn’t bring it in with us. So…. The blade is not the parks fault. But her attitude is.. A OMG! Thank you was definitely in order.. confession also had no...
