Loved getting out to Kolob reservoir. The scenic drive along Kolob terrace road was an experience in itself. Away from the crowds of Zion, this road crosses in and out of the park a few times along the way. As the road climbs in elevation, the drive offers breathtaking views of mountains, lush forestry, red rock scenery, and portions of Zion. Once we arrived at the reservoir, it was noticeably cooler thanks to the higher elevation. The reservoir sits among the mountains surrounded by aspens and evergreens with dispersed campsites along the lake. There are vaulted restrooms, which are decently maintained, dumpsters, along with a boat ramp, and dock. While it’s a great spot for kayaking, canoeing, float tubing, and fishing; for this trip we stayed on the shore. There were a few people fishing from their kayaks, as the water is cooler away from the shore so you are more likely to hook a fish. I throughly enjoyed spending time at this serene and picturesque reservoir. It offers a sense of tranquility that is hard to come by. Kolob reservoir is a place to escape the heat and crowds of southern Utah, making it a great little spot for a wonderful retreat. On my next visit, I plan to stop along some of the trailheads off Kolob terrace road and do some more exploring. Don’t skip out...
Read moreDrove up to Kolob to escape the oppressive heat. Temps in the low 80s were refreshing. The drive is scenic. Make sure to make use of the pull outs to take it all in. The water level in the lake is high. We did not see any exposed beaches, or day use areas. It appears the days of free camping along the shores are over. Campsites are marked and there are numerous signs indicating no free camping. Every pull out area has become a paid camp site. Even though someone is making money, few improvements have been made and camping remains primitive. "Bathrooms" consist of porta pottys scattered along the lake. Amenities typically associated with paid sites are missing. There is no water, picnic tables, flattened areas for tents or improved driveways for trailers and RVs. Its primitive camping for a fee. I haven't had any luck accessing the booking site so I'm not even sure how one would go about making a reservation. We visited on a weekday. It was peaceful and quiet. Not sure how...
Read moreVisited for the first time today and we loved it. The lake is pretty big. There is a dirt road that goes all the way around it, so you can drive around and choose a place where you want to camp, fish or just hang out. Lots of dust from the cars though. There are areas perfect for camping everywhere. Finding one that's not taken is another thing. We drove almost all the way around until we found a spot. There are also restroom structures here and there which is very nice. Lots of people camping, fishing, paddle boarding, boating, etc. Everyone is nice and respectful. We just came fishing for a day. The fish jumps out of the water teasing you 😂 unfortunately we didn't catch anything, but the guy next to us caught plenty. We will be coming back and we will definitely rent a boat to go to the middle of the lake to explore the tiny island. There is also a...
