We Jeep around Florida finding history one trail at a time. Goethe meets that perfectly with it's easy trails and cool things to find. The Goethe Giant is a cypress tree that is around 909 years old!!!! One of the few that survived the logging industry. Old rail road beds and bridges, the Red Lodge, and well maintained trails. Beware during the summer months of the yellow flies. They are relentless. If you are looking for a place to eat, check out the Black Prong village. They have a great little restaurant called the Galloping Gourmet. Its excellent. Stop by the ranger station to check on any road closure. Enjoy the ride it's very stock friendly. -...
Read moreThe campground and campsites were great. It's located at a trailhead so there's some activity during the daylight hours. The campground has non-potable water and bathrooms...yes real plumbing, which was a great surprise. The rangers which made their rounds daily, were very helpful and knowledgeable.
The only downside to this campground is that there is no cellphone service...I have T-Mobile and I had to walk out to the entrance to the campground to even get a signal and then only got 3 bars at the very most. Maybe other service...
Read moreGoethe is a beautiful State Forest lots of hiking trails, horseback riding trails, seasonal hunting. Never crowded, very quiet, clean and well maintained. A chance to see natural scrub oak areas of Florida as well as a mixture of Cypress Swamps. Many of the areas in Goethe have some very nice sheltered picnic areas. The Giant Cypress tree is located within Goethe, not something you want to miss when visiting. Lots of wildlife, have seen a few alligators. I think the state forest is around...
