Enjoyed a hike on the Pleasant Valley and Pleasant Creek and Pleasant Ridge Trails. 9.1 miles total. Took about 5 1/2 hours with several breaks and a 15 min lunch. Loved the scenery and the woodlands. I didn't see a single soul on the trail. It was really nice to have the whole thing to myself. Some volunteers should go out and remove the litter along the trail. It was pretty bad. Jerks. Parts of the trail are very remote and give you a sense of being in a real wilderness minus the mowed and maintained paths in some locations. There are some secret locations with delightful surprises if you do some exploring. Only saw 4 trees down across the trail today. Looks like the DNR works their butts of to keep the trail clear of debris. Plenty of evidence that chainsaws were used quite extensively. Wish there were more benches scattered throughout and maybe some hooks on the mile posts to hang a backpack for a water/pee break. Thank you for a great trail and a great hike. I...
Read moreThe park is still a decent place to go hike or fish, but hunting is becoming less and less appealing. Lots of ground and good cover, but the population of almost everything seems to be down quite a bit compared to when I started hunting there 20 years ago. Especially quail (which I haven't seen in several years) and pheasants. The amount of ground and types of cover would indicate a huge population. Not so much. The worst is that a lot of the trails that used to be cut, to allow access, no longer exist. If you're not under 40 with very healthy joints, most of the hunting areas are a struggle to reach anymore. Plus a few of the plus where corn or beans would be planted haven't been used in quite a few years, they're just overgrown so bad you can't hunt them. Same as many of the trails on the south and west parts...
Read moreOn Friday May 10th 2019 we were camping at the site. We had six registered guests at our campsite. When we very first checked in they told us that the campground closed at 10:30 but we could come and go as we please. One of our party showed up on May 10th 2019 approximately 11:30 p.m and they were stopped by DNR and given an $85 ticket for coming into a campground that was closed at the time. Even though we were told that we could come and go as we please as long as we were a registered camper I would not recommend this campsite even to the homeless. When we look for our registration tag that you stick on the pole at the campsite that morning it had been taken and thrown away by DNR. How convenient! That way we have no proof that we had six registered guests and the ticket was written...
