I recently visited the park to attend a soccer game for my grandson. I have been to the park to fish, play frisbee golf, relax and enjoy my grandkids there. I have always taken my 9# lady pooch with me, honestly she is my date since my wife passed away a few years ago. I am a very responsible dog owner who always take care of her and is prepared for cleanup and to have some on the leash exercise. Truthfully she is better behaved then the g'boys and me too. Anyway, as I had never been to the soccer fields, I inquired with my kids parents if it was okay to bring my pet, there weren't sure but I checked in the website and found that dogs must remain on a leash, so I procided to bring her. Shortly after arrival on the muddy soccer field and setting up in our field chair, I was informed by some official (?) that I would have to remove my dog. I assured her that the dog was well behaved and would be no problem. I was told that I could absolutely not stay on the sidelines of the field with my pet. She was rude, and I advised her that the website stated that dogs on a leash were allowed. Anyway that's why it's only a one star rating. I live adjacent to Dyer Central park and enjoy watching my boys play there on the Dyer Kickers team. I also walk my dog there daily, after all...
ย ย ย Read moreMy partner and I were driving through Indiana on the way toward Chicago. We had our dogs in tow (11 year old boxer mix and 3 year old English lab) and we planned to stop in Crown Pointe, Indiana to meet a friend for dinner. We got to Crown Pointe much earlier than planned, so we looked for a park to let the dogs run. With little effort, we found Lemon Lake County Park. Wow! The dog park was a seven acre site within Lemon Lake County Park, and we were amazed. We've been to way too many dog parks which are nothing more than a fenced in area of a field that used to be grass but had turned into a dirty dust bowl. Lemon Lake County Park, in contrast, was an oasis for dogs. The site was beautifully manicured, and provided many areas for dogs to wander off and investigate. The dog park was entirely fenced in, so there was never a worry about losing the dogs. We were in the park around 5:30 pm on a Saturday, and we had the area to ourselves. We don't come to Indiana often, but if we are in the area, again, we...
ย ย ย Read moreThe following is a summary of some of the things I noticed during a recent visit. Most, if not all of the equipment has rust on it. The solution, the rust has been painted over. A children's slide is cracked which can cause severe injury if used by a child. The volleyball court is unusable due to the amount of weeds growing in the sandbox. The paved walking trail has overgrown weeds and branches. Making things even more frustrating, is the $5.00 dollar fee each time if you enter by vehicle. By contrast, I visited a Michigan Park yesterday. The entry fee for the season is $17.00 for none-residents. Get it together Lake County Government officials! If this is the best you can do,...
