Michigan Cellar 1914 is a true treasure for anyone who appreciates fine wine, breathtaking scenery, and genuine hospitality. From the moment you step onto the property, you’re greeted by wide-open spaces that invite you to relax and soak in the natural beauty of Northern Michigan. The views are spectacular, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and every visit feels like a special occasion.
Our tasting experience was nothing short of delightful. The 2019 La Crescent was a standout—bright, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, with a crispness that made it both refreshing and memorable. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Their selection of reds is equally impressive, offering rich flavors and smooth finishes that will please even the most discerning palate. Each wine we sampled had its own unique character, reflecting the care and passion that goes into every bottle.
Beyond the wine, it’s the overall experience that makes Michigan Cellar 1914 so special. The tasting room is cozy and inviting, filled with family history and charming details that add to the sense of place. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to share a story or recommend a new favorite.

Read moreTo start there was no chit hat about the winery or it’s 100 year history, which is what I really enjoy about visiting wineries. I Ordered a flight (3) samples of their “sweet” wines only to discover they are not sweet at all. The 2 whites had no taste difference and were so acidic and dry my mother said they tasted like bad vinegar and we could not finish the 1oz samplings. There was no apricot or fruit of any sort undertones, balsamic vinegar would have been more palatable. As for the red version, I’ve had smoother Cabernets than this supposed “sweet”. When asked by the owner how we enjoyed them I told him they weren’t at all sweet and I couldn’t finish the sampling, he took extreme offense, insisted we pay our tab and didn’t even offer a water or crackers to cleanse our pallets. My stomach bothered me the rest of the night. Not...

We were in the area from Chicago and had been there a few times prior to this visit. Unfortunately I did not do my research and the winery was closed the entire length of our stay this time. I took a shot and messaged the winery and to my amazement I received a message back within minutes. Rob said he had a meeting the following day but could meet us in the afternoon. Rob opened the winery just for us, so we could get some wine. We even ended up having a couple glasses with him. There are very few wineries that would do this. They have a life time...
