Update: 9/24/23 we are home and missing this place already!! We will definitely be back soon!!.... We stayed from Thursday until Sunday and plan to return for a weeks stay sometime in the near future with the rest of our close family and friends, as we all enjoy camping now as a family activity to make memories with each other and our children. This park was so awesome that we are already planning a big family stay as soon as possible
We had the BEST time here while camping for the first time in our camper as a family of 4. (My Husbands cousin, son, and her boyfriend, along with his daughter, joined us and stayed in a tent Saturday night...we also had a family friend stop by and eat on Friday and another family friend came Saturday for dinner and a day trip hanging at the river and fishing on Lake Craig. They also loved it! My husband and our 2 boys were thrilled with the fishing opportunities, the river being close to our site, and this section of the Palmetto Trail.(SO far we have been to the Peak, Newberry, Prosperity, and, Pomaria sections of the Palmetto trail and we are only getting started!! I, too, loved ALL if it. Our site was perfect, all the campers around us were like neighbors we had known forever, after about 9pm it was very quiet and so relaxing and peaceful, the restroom/bathhouse was always clean(we do have a bathroom in our camper but preferred the Bath house because it was bigger and gave us a chance to all take a shower at one time considering we had so much to do that it was always late before we showered and went to bed)The office staff, especially Teresa, were amazing. They were BEYOND helpful, very kind, and accommodating to anything we needed or wanted while here. We never got a chance to rent a boat or kayak, but the fact that it's only 15$ is a great deal for such a beautiful area. We are on a mission to visit every state park in SC and they gave us a book with ALL the parks listed and a place to have each park you visit give you a stamp for a fun keepsake. We, of course, received our very first stamp here. We are headed to Lake Hartwell State park next and we are very excited to have this opportunity as a family to make some amazing memories across the state my Husband and I were born, raised, and grew up in. We do plan on moving in the next 5 years or so, and whatever state we choose to move to, we already know new adventures await us!!!
1st camping trip here with my husband and 2 boys, and it has been amazing so far. We arrived on a Thursday and are staying until Sunday. We also were running behind on Thursday and arrived after the office was closed, and it was NO problem at all. We called, and we were told how to get in with a gate code on our receipt and told we could check in Friday morning. We got lot #5 for the camper and lot 6 for a tent, which was a perfect spot for 6 located directly across from the shower/restroom. We found the river after walking the Palmetto Trail today and plan on spending more time there tomorrow. So far, this has been the best vacation we...
Read more3/16/2022. I'll start with the negative, which possibly should reduce this review to 4 STARS: the trail signs are terrible. They are so bad that they will deter hikers who have experienced just how poorly marked the trails are from hiking in Croft as much as they might wish to. With map in hand, and referring to the map dozens of times, a year ago my wife and I went on a 1.5 mile hike (well defined on the paper map). By the time we returned we'd liked well over 4 miles. No big deal, but irritating consider the careful effort we made to follow the trail. Additionally, Croft has been very busy with woodlands maintenance, evidence of forestry mulching is extensive, mulching deadwood to reduce risk of out-of-control forest fires. This is all good with the exception that their work has obliterated sections of many trails. Without functional signs it is now harder to determine where the trails are. Croft State Park: greatly increase and improve the trails signs!!! We stayed in the park 3 days recently in our RV and really enjoyed the freshness of the well maintained campground. It was clean, employees were very helpful, accommodating, and friendly. The restrooms/bathhouses were tidy, clean, well stocked and warm. Extensive improvements to walkways near and around the lake, retaining walls, and newly installed benches and swings were everywhere. The asphalt roads are in poor condition, but consider all the good features, as well as the great price for staying overnight, it balances out to FIVE STARS. Fix the stupid trail...
Read moreThis was our first time there, it was nice and the older boys enjoyed fishing and the creek. The playground wasnt open for smaller kids. The park manager stayed on us the whole weekend while we were there. The other staff are awesome. We were told each day we weren't following the rules. When the park manager tells us the rules and we followed what were told, he came back with something else. We tried our best to stay positive for the kids. With this COVID stuff we understand the rules, but having a big family this site isn't recommended. Especially if you have more than 2 adults planning on staying at the site. We bought 2 camping lots just for the park manager to tell us we could only visit for 30miutes long enough to eat. When we asked about the shelter to keep them from coming back out on us if we hadnt left within 30minutes. And was told only 10 at the shelter. To ride by after the park manager told us we couldn't. As we took some to fish while we cooked to keep from having 4 adults on site, to see 30+ at the shelter and nothing was said close to 7pm. We will not be back. We go by the rules when they addressed them and tried our very best to stay positive so we could give it another try in the future. But we dont see...
