This trailhead is the start of a trail network that can get you to at least two waterfalls and the Avenue of the Boulders. I think might also be possible to get to Pearsoney Falls, but I'm not entirely sure. In any case, the trails here are confusing, the very old wooden sign (which is cool, kind of looks bit like folk art) shows generally the trails in the area, but once you get onto them, there is a criss-crossing network of trails which seem to go all over the place. Generally, you will head down toward the river gorge, and the viewpoints for the two waterfalls, but it is a bit confusing and theoretically one could get lost, though it's a pretty developed area in town and not true wilderness. Also, keeping it real, the town is a bit sketchy, it could be perfectly safe, but Prospect is definitely a backwater town, so if you're driving your brand new, perfectly clean, nice vehicle, you may want to keep everything out of sight. This is just my own personal feeling, so take it with a grain of salt. This trailhead is the access point to Barr Creek and Mill Creek Falls (see...

The path to the main attractions is wide and mostly clear. There were about 3 downed young trees across the path, but we were able to get around. We were there on the Saturday after 4th of July, so I assume foot traffic was higher than usual. We came across about 20 people during our 2 hour hike. We chose to walk down to the view point for Mill and Barr falls. It was gorgeous. There was a group of happy hikers perched on the rocks at the point where both falls are visible, so we didn't push on or intrude. The space appeared limited and the view was probably even more breathtaking. I recommend going the other direction as well and checking out the boulders at this spot. Where rocks of this immense size meet powerful water, ...

This is a wonderful trail with beautiful access to the river at avenue of the boulders. Parking lot is not huge but I've never had a problem. Be warned this is a down hill descent to the sights. The further down you go the further back up you'll have to go to get back to your vehicle. Also be warned but don't let this scare you. This river can and will kill you if care is not taken. Kids should be well within reach when next to the river as the smallest of mistakes can lead to disastrous events. With that being said I take my 3 yr old out there with no problem. The hikes on the way to the scenic points have no severe dangers to worry about for kids and toddlers. Hiking shoes or boots with a light jacket is sufficient in...

My hike from the parking lot to the falls and then to the boulders was about 1.7 miles round trip. Wear outdoor clothing that you don't mind getting dirty especially your shoes. The boulders are a great place to take the family. If you're real adventurous and in great shape you can hike down to the base of the falls. It's difficult but there is an unmarked, slippery and very steep path to the base of the falls.

Quick easy stop and hike on way to CLNP. Look for signs for trailhead and small parking area. Approximately 0.3 miles to Mill falls then continue trail and at about 0.5 mark you'll arrive at Barr Creek. If you're short on time, skip the Ave of Boulders, just continue driving on that road and by the bridge on right you'll see small turn off parking to take photos of Ave of Boulders from a higher vantage point.
