A more "intimate" waterfall in the town of Prospect. What's nice about this one is the trail goes alongside the creek above the waterfall, so you can go right down to the edge of the creek if you were so inclined. There are a couple of braids of the creek as it spills over the falls, so the falls is much wider than it is tall. There are ways to get down on both sides of the falls so you can view it from many different angles. The trail from the parking lot is pretty short, it does drop down a hundred feet or so (gradually) so there is a bit of a hike back to the parking lot, but overall it's quite easy. The trail then continues downstream to a viewpoint overlooking the Avenue of the Boulders, which we did, but it was quite confusing once at "a" viewpoint. There are a couple of other (what looks like) social trails that continue along the edge of the gorge, which we took for a quarter mile or so before turning around. I'm not sure if this trail continues or if there is another way down into the gorge closer to the boulders, but it's not well marked. I would assume most people only go to the waterfall anyway.
I would recommend not leaving any valuables in your car, the parking lot is a bit sketchy, when we were there, there was an RV with what looked like a couple of people living in the parking lot, and the whole town is kinda backwater. If you are traveling and stopping for a visit, just don't leave anything visible, this is probably true for almost anywhere you'd leave...
Read moreGoogle maps led us to a market, but we sidled past it less than a 1/4 mile and on the opposite side of the road is a large unmarked parking lot for the trail. It has a pit toilet, which i was scared to use because hornets were swarming the door, however, another lady entered and there were no ensuing screams. Just past the toilet is the trail and after you start walking you will see a trail marker. There is a 5way split in the trail and we followed the only path leading downhill towards the sound of water. Reached the BEAUTIFUL Pearsony falls after brief and easy hike. My husband and mother and I just loved it! We didn’t not continue the path after that; I understand from some people we talked to that further down there is a bridge and view of the river. Its an easy hike for kids and you can be in and out in an...
Read moreThis is a relatively easygoing and well-maintained trail. I hiked down primarily for photographs of the waterfall and streams. The going can get a bit sketchy when you're going off the beaten path and getting down to the water's edge, but I think that's to be expected. I'm not completely certain how far the trail goes as I went to the falls and then followed the stream for quite some ways before I decided to head back. The trail continued on and still looked very nice. There's a handful of places to sit (on fallen logs) and rest if needed. The parking lot is very generous and there is a bathroom at the start of the trail. There's a handful of picnic tables at the very beginning of the trail, scattered around the...
