We visited The Oregon Vortex or Mystery house or what ever else it's known as. It was a weekday in June 2023. I will say it was entertaining how well they could stretch out a tour of one old, one room building that is never more than feet away from the gift shop. Again, it was entertaining. The idea is based upon magnetic principals relating to the earth. As such it is explained that things appear different than they should be. Unfortunately for me, I don't see things the way a lot of folks do. So for me, I saw things as they actually were because I look at things different. As such the optical illusions didn't seem to appear as they said it should. I felt bad because I had to explain how I saw it different and why. Most of the time when I pointed out how to look at it. The optical illusion went away for others also. So I tried to keep my mouth shut as much as possible as to not ruin the shell game for the others. So I guess it could be an interesting time if you just went along with the story. But for me it really wasn't worth the price I paid. The wife also didn't think it merited the price premium. But she did try to go along somewhat. But she even started to see the optical illusions. So the fun wore off fairly quickly for her as well. It wasn't a bad time if you just play along and have fun. But it is a little pricey for...
Read moreFirst off, this may or may not start off like a bad review, but it's far from it, more a warning please keep reading!. So, first off, don't expect there to be a lot of room while driving the final 3 ish miles to their place, it gets almost 1 car only level at one point if you're taking an RV and very windy, TAKE IT VERY EASY. going on their off season is the best, still fairly warm with only a few bugs. The people there are really kind AND you might see a family of deer up close, but no other real animal in sight or earshot. Almost eerily silent. 2nd off! As a person with an understanding of science and how gravitational pulls can work, this place IS far more than simple optical illusions, don't mistake it for such. PLEASE bring your own things, it's absolutely fascinating. Our tour guide took a full 1m 29second video, of us and accidentally took a video of herself trying to film us. Watched it before we left, but the next day, it was completely chopped up, neither of the full videos survived, just weird 1-2 second action films of each thing adding up to less than 7 seconds. Actually really disappointed in that one😞 BUT at least it's not about the mementos, it's about the moments. Have fun here and take your time, it's absolutely fascinating...
Read moreAbsolutely not worth it. I honestly can't understand how this place has such a long history and good reputation. It's the very definition of a tourist trap.
I've been to a similar place in California and it was really cool. It was like a park, with lots of fun illusions you could play with on your own. This is literally one structure with a handful of platforms and poles around it. You're glued to a guide who spends ages BSing about paranormal phenomena, slowly leading up to "big reveals" I couldn't even see half the time. I've got a bunch of worthless pictures in my phone of people standing around on platforms holding poles on their heads. The slanted house is the star attraction, but even that only has one or two mildly interesting bits that only work until you look at them longer than a few moments. When I was sure we must finally be about to move on to something interesting, the tour was over. It's exceptionally short, which was relieving because of how boring it was, but considering it was almost FORTY BUCKS for me and my kid to get in I couldn't help but feel like I'd been tricked. That's a humongous amount of money for a little handful of mildly amusing (at best) optical illusions. Seems I'm in the minority here, but my advice is...
