There are many places to wade in the water or sit and relax in the shallow water. If you have not visited this place you should. We live close by and come often. There are only four historic cover bridges remaining intact in the state of Missouri. This is the fourth oldest covered bridge and obviously one of only four left. This bridge was constructed in 1872 allowing Jefferson County and surrounding Hillsboro area residents to travel to St. Louis. In 1886 the bridge washed away from a flood, and they rebuilt it the same year using some of the original timbers. You could spend the whole day here if you wanted to or at least a warm sunny afternoon, where you can cool off and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the sounds...

Tip: We combined our trip to here with a trip to Mastodon State Historic Site, which is about a 20-25 minute drive away.
