Hyner Park is like being 3 inches from Heaven! We went there because I had recently taken a flight in a small plane. I was trying to describe what the land looked like from 1,500-2,000 feet up to someone who had never been in a small 4-seater. Hyner gets the point across. It's set up to be a launching site for hang gliding. The launch area is perfect for a panoramic view of the mountains and the West Branch Susquehanna River. The kids thought the launch area was a great place to fly a kite! The park has memorabilia and military markers, clean pit toilets, a hand-washing station, garbage and recycle bins, and numerous picnic tables situated in dappled sunlight. Coming up the big hill into the park gives the impression that it's not so far up. There's only one look out along the way during summer. The lookout is a teaser for the view from the peak--builds anticipation!
The park is near other fun attractions that offer swimming, fishing, hiking trails and deep wilderness. Not far away, in the town of Renovo, there's dining, karaoke, bingo, a small library and even a tiny hospital with a 2-bed emergency department (hope you won't need it!).
We visited Hyner Park as part of a 3-stop trip: Benezet to see the Elk (near St Mary's) and Sinnemahoning Dam (a great attraction with a floor-sized model of the area and dam, and an interactive display of local wildlife). The kids loved it.
We were hoping to add in the lumber museum up on Route 6, but it got too late and the kids were really enjoying the kite at Hyner. We stayed and relaxed until dusk, then carefully made our way down spotting several deer.
Give it a shot for an old-fashioned picnic with your family as a fine ending of a day of exploring western...
Read moreWe just spent the weekend here. It was our first time using the campground which is mostly shaded with a mature pine forest. We were on site 16 which has Hyner Run Creek at your back door. Nice to hear the stream running during the evenings. Some of the sites may be a tight fit for a bigger rig. Our 32.7' rig fit but it took some finagling and help from neighbors guiding (thanks!) to get tucked in There are the sites that would be easier to get into but most those were already booked due to being pet sites. The RV section was pretty much full but he rustic sites were pretty open. The RV sites have electric h/u. (50 amp). There are several places to get water in the park but I didn't see any at the sites. You can fill up on the way into the RV section. All of the sites have a picnic table and fire ring. There is a dump station. They also have an in ground pool which wasn't open at this time. Fairly quiet campground. Not much traffic on Hyner Run Rd which runs parallel to the campground. I can imagine the Summer months may be a little noisier with the pool open? Either way, We loved it there. We will...
