This is an excellent location in north-central pennsylvania, on route 120, about 3 hours north of harrisburg, in clinton county, about an hour north of state college. you pass over a large bridge (west branch susquehanna) and you actually go into the town of hyner. there are many park signs all around so you wont get lost. it is located next to hyner run state park. you have to go up this windy road, that has to be about 5 miles long from the mail road. its is paved, but there arent any markings and its very hard to see around turns. there was once a near-accident from someone speeding down the mountain.
this has an excellent view of the whole valley for miles around, you can see mountains everywhere, and the bridge and town you just drove through are recognizable. it is one of the best views or scenic vistas in pennsylvania, even though the park is only 6 acres large.
its is a great place to go and watch the leaves change colors and just sit down and have a picnic. there are a number of informational monuments and small gazebos that have maps and history and such. there is a wooden ramp that leads straight down the mountain that is used by hanggliders. this is a very popular sport for leaf-peepers and just people who love outdoors.
i really really highly suggest this place, if you check out my pictures its the 3rd or 4th one. it could be the coolest one ever, there is a stone overlook that was constructed decades ago. the park itself is small, i'd say under 10 acres, but has one of the best views for...
Read moreHyner view is my favorite place in Pennsylvania to visit! It states about 2,000 ft above sea level in terms of elevation. While not anywhere near the ocean it has a gorgeous view of the Susquehanna River with the Tanner for Nova in the distance to the north and Hills rolling for Miles as the eye to see to the north and west and south
Depending on the day you will see people taking off from a platform for hang gliding that worked away very slowly and pleasantly to Landing areas that are on either side of this kind of river below. It is awesome to watch those people do their Artistry in the air.
Anybody's out there is very friendly. Many come with their dogs. Almost every dog that I've seen in my time is behinder has been exceedingly friendly to any and all people coming to admire The View.
I believe the hang gliding is is known on a national scale as a attraction for those that enjoy that activity! I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to come see that if you're traveling anywhere in the inity of Clinton County Central...
Read moreGreat place to camp if you have kids. Very little traffic and a short walk to the pool which is free but runs off donations. So please donate if you can to keep this going. The life guards to amazing job taking care of the pool from mowing the grass to keeping the bugs out. The size of the camp sites on the outside of the loop are some of the biggest ones I have ever seen. Just remember if your RV has a slide out you might have to squeeze around the trees to get in. Specially the site on the inside of the loop. But seemed like most people got in fine. The only negative thing I would have to say about the camp ground is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. I think it was because they are shared with the pool. It would be better if they had someone clean them after the pool closed or do it twice a day during the weekends. Over all I would come back to this park again. We love the atmosphere of the campground. Hyner Veiw state park is...
