The grounds of Monticello were in vibrant bloom during our visit. We took the basic tour which was aptly led. In a 45 minute tour, it is difficult to cover the full life of any person much less one of Jefferson’s varied interest and experiences. The Monticello basic tours and exhibits focus on his relationship to concepts of freedom, the conflict of his writings and his ownership of slaves, and relationship with Sally Hemmings. To learn more about his efforts during the revolution, his diplomacy, his work to develop more scientific methods of farming, you may need to dig deeper in other resources. Do not fail to fully take in the visitor center and consider the more in depth tours of the house.

Beautiful grounds and informative tours! Great exhibits and interactive edutainment features! Very friendly staff and volunteers! Fantastic views! Awesome for kids and adults to experience. Plan on spending at least 4 hours in and around the park, at the museum, and in the Discovery Center.

Having heard about Monticello since I was a kid in school, I finally got to go here. We did a wonderful tour of the house (the 90-minute tour). Well worth the time and money. What a great experience!

Essential for the American history lover. Take the tour but don’t pay extra to see the 2nd and 3rd story. Just bedrooms and an empty dome room. It’s interesting just not worth $45. Jefferson was not only a critical player in the founding of our country but he was a Renaissance man interested in pretty much everything. The design of the house is fascinating. Don’t miss the museum at the...
