The grounds of Monticello were in vibrant bloom during our visit. We took the basic tour which was aptly led. In a 45 minute tour, it is difficult to cover the full life of any person much less one of Jefferson’s varied interest and experiences. The Monticello basic tours and exhibits focus on his relationship to concepts of freedom, the conflict of his writings and his ownership of slaves, and relationship with Sally Hemmings. To learn more about his efforts during the revolution, his diplomacy, his work to develop more scientific methods of farming, you may need to dig deeper in other resources.
