Nice peaceful place with a park pavilion and picnic tables, shady lawn with a nice size creek flowing.

The area is just off 66, and is a beautiful picnic or outdoor family event location.

The covered bridge is classic in great condition, a reminder of how slow the pace once was. The timber framing is thick sawmill rough sawn as one would expect for a vintage structure. You can't find wood like this now, wide mature, long, thick, no dimensional lumber here.

I gazed into the stream wondering if any fish 🐟 🤔 might be hungry, my wife went straight to the Red bridge, clean and historic.

Well worth the time, and a nice...

This is a beautiful covered bridge which is now part of Pioneer Park, in Glenarm, Illinois. The bridge is one of only five historic bridges which still remain in Illinois. While we enjoyed seeing the Sugar Creek Covered Bridge, the creek was disappointing. It was extremely murky, making it difficult to tell how deep the water was, and there was no current whatsoever. Pioneer Park, which was established to pay tribute to the first settlers of Sangamon County, has a small pavilion with one picnic table, and there are no restroom facilities on site. Seeing the bridge was well worth the 90 minute drive it took...

Sugar Creek Covered Bridge is located in Glenarm, IL. It is a lovely isolated bridge that is closed to all but foot traffic. There is nearby parking that easily lets you visit this beautiful scenic area. Aside from the inevitable graffiti, the bridge and surrounding area is beautiful. Babbling creek, isolated, quiet… it would be a nice place to have a picnic...

Well maintained Illinois State historical site in a beautiful location. There is a small park and pavilion attached that is a city park. Parking is limited, but there is seldom a crowd. The location is not far from the Glenarm exit off of I-55. Do note there are no restrooms and no public restrooms in the nearest town (Glenarm).
