After a few scrolls on All Trails I stumbled upon Cochran Mill Green Loop. Cochran Mill Green Loop was easy to find as it sits right off the main roadway. The parking is ample (and paid) and has space for horse trailer parking as well.
As I arrived at the main area I took a moment to review the board. The board educated me that there were multiple trail options. Also, the routes vary by skill level and miles. I was so excited. As today was my non-gym day I decided to go for the Yellow Trail as it is Moderate in effort and is 3-4 miles.
I was slightly confused at first, however, there was an entry to the trail towards the back of the parking area. Once I found it, it was all go from there. LoL!
The trail was easy to follow as the path is easily identifiable. The woods are quiet and personal. There was a sense of peace as I was walking through the woods.
The different levels of elevation provide for an enhanced view of the general area. I’m talking absolutely gorgeous. The spots of water provide a moment of serenity as you get lost in the sounds of water going down the stream.
The path was fun as it was up, down, and all around. I had a blast. Truly, a blast.
As I was getting to the end I got lost. lol. Thanks to All Trails for tracing my route as I was able to retrace my steps. Next time I’ll pay better attention to where I parked so I can know where to go back to. Ha!!
Today was amazing. Great air. Great...
Read moreBeautiful to see the falls immediately by the parking lot but DO NOT attempt hiking the red trail unless you use a compass and can easily recall your path despite winding/overlapping loops. Anyone who is an avid hiker knows the importance of knowing your trail map and watching out for markers, which did me absolutely no good at this park. The red trail in this park could not have been more problematic by not aligning with the map in the park or online (the two are completely different but neither align with the actual trail). What is already a difficult hike was severely exacerbated by signs missing (e.g., failure to have signs/gates closed in no trespassing/private land zones), arrows pointing in the wrong directions (e.g., arrows pointing at various angles when trail was straight), trail signs not listed on both sides of a pole despite the trail being a loop/out and back, and at times the trail signs being posted a ways after your turn. Also at random times the trail markers changed color (e.g., blue and green in places that do not align with the map and blue isn't even a color listed on any map). I would've rated this hike much higher due to a mix of elevation, wildlife seen, and paths by the water if I hadn't been so pissed off the the mismanagement of the trail. Also it costs $5 and the pay machine was not working - luckily we did not...
Read moreWhat a GEM!!! If you are a mountain biker, hiker, or an equestrian, Cochran Mill Park is an absolute MUST see! These trails are maintained by @MTBAtlanta so please consider a donation to help keep our Georgia green spaces thriving.
Nestled just 30 minutes south of Atlanta, there are many waterfalls to be enjoyed at the park. To view the majority of them follow the map to the Green trail and you will be dazzled by a series of rock formations mingled with old structures that served as a merchant mill during the 1800's.
The Green trail offers the less strenous access to waterfalls; with about a quarter mile hike up to 3 miles round trip, you will get some spectacular views of many water features. If you're more adventurous then the Yellow trail offers another popular 4 mile hike to another beautiful waterfall. This same waterfall can be accessed by the Red Trail but is not for the faint of heart as it gets much more technical and the hike is about 6 miles.
Cochran Mill is one of my favorites. Be sure to donate to @MTBAtlanta if you'd like to see more trails being built...
