What an absolutely beautiful park! It is very clean and very well maintained. They have a very clean beach area, boat ramp, a grassy/sandy area if you prefer that for launching your kayak/canoe.
We kayaked a little over 4 miles going up the river and through the electrified fence (a scary experience, but it turned out well.) I was surprised to see that the water was very clear. There is a lot of grasses in the water so if you have pedal drives on your kayaks, you will probably need to stay in the channel. It's deep enough that paddling is not that hard.
The bathrooms are very clean and the cottages look very clean from the outside and all the ones I saw had a screened in back porch facing the water. We are planning a multifamily camping trip later in the year when it is cooler.
They have a playground, several picnic pavilions, and a mini-golf course. I didn't explore those closely but looked to be clean and well maintained.
The office / visitor center was very small and did not have much in it. We didn't need anything, but sometimes something will catch our attention.
There is construction occurring on the opposite side of the lake from the office/visitor center. I think they are adding more RV, primitive, and cottage camping, but I'm not certain about that.
We were there on a Tuesday for about 5 hours and only saw one other person besides staff. I'm sure its much busier on the weekends. This is a beautiful, peaceful, place to visit, fish, paddle, hike, swim...
Read moreDo not like what y'all have done, sight specific. I usually go to the lake for 7 to 10 days. Well, that has changed! I'm not going for 4 or 5 days, break camp to accommodate someone coming in for 1 or 2 nights. No, if we break camp, we're going somewhere else or going home. There's 2 more families that we go to LS with since December. There's not but a few times that we've missed, so I'm seeing it's ok that we come for the slow months, once start getting busy, just the heck with us. WE keep y'all busy. We just had a family reunion, rented 12 of the 14 cabins and 6 or 7 campsites this last weekend. Guess what, the ones that have been faithful to y'all, had to take left overs. Oh by the way, I had my campsite reserved since Feb. somehow my reservations were given to someone else! I found out about it 3wks before going down there! I called on regular basis making sure I still had it, assuring me, I did! I am still wondering, WHY, should I make reservations when, y'all give it away. We've been very disappointed since this site specififc. I don't know whose crazy idea this was but it stinks. I don't have to go down there, living only 20 min away. The people at LS, are great, but some negative changes have made a mess out of the use codes. The problem was there before new people came in and they have their hands full....
Read moreTwo night stay with our travel trailer. The staff at check in and the Host Family were great. There isn't much to do at the park unless you are into water sports. They are recovering from hurricane damage and recently reopened their hiking trails. This park is far off the beaten path so bring what you need. There are several sea food restaurants in the area advertised at the welcome center. Our site was very nice, level, with plenty of shade. It was apparent during our stay most of the other campers were locals. No biggie but then you always have THOSE GUYS. For us it was three couples in their late 50s early 60s who insisted on drinking, partying, yelling and using the F word constantly until 0130 the first night. On the second they lasted until midnight. Rules clearly state quiet times are 1000pm to 0700am. The Host Families were very close so they had to be aware of the noise, which really wasn't the issue, it was the constant use of the F word that was disgusting. Last issue was on our departure morning around 0700 we started to experience power surges. Thinking it was our rig, we did a thorough inspection and found nothing at fault, but did see a number of fellow campers inspecting their power boxes. Not a park we...
