I have lots of fond memories of this wonderful place. My dad delivered the mail for 25 years to this area and to the reserve during the 60s 70s and 80s. He was friends with the Rangers and they gave us personal hikes to a native American rock house located on the side of the mountain. I Also got the privilege of being able to climb the fire tower when it was operational in the 70s and what a thrill for a 10 year old. Snoopers rock is a must see and a great vantage point for photos.

I can remember in the early 70s seeing locations where bootleggers ran stills and the the items they left behind after a quick departure. There used to be a great little place to drop a line in called Davis pond but I'm not sure if it still exists or not.

It was a Thanksgiving tradition to go hunting for whatever was in season at that time but it was more of a hike and time well spent with my dad. It's great to see that it hasn't changed much and it's like stepping...

This is an nice outdoor area. Visitors should check on line before heading out during deer and turkey seasons, as only hunters are allowed access during those special hunts. It contains several foot traffic-only trails, and an amazing view of the Tennessee River from the Snoopers Rock Overlook. This area also attracts a large number of ATV and off-road motorcycle riders, which kick up a lot of dust when conditions are even a little bit dry, which will require you to wash your vehicle after you leave. Prentice Cooper is one of the best known locations in Tennessee to see Diana Fritillary butterflies, and is the only location in the state where a Northern Cresent butterfly has been seen. It also has several primitive campsites. The pond way out on Pond Rd has a nice assortment of...

Church camp group of young children and their parents were screamed at while camping at 9:30pm. They were already in their tents and settled for the night. Unknown man who refused to identify himself cursing and screaming telling them to pack their stuff and get to the top of the trail. Marion Counry dispatch was called and TWRA officer called as well. We were told it was not TWRA out there but could of been a Marion County officer who lives close! If this was you sir! SHAME ON YOU! these were respectable children and parents who were simply taking a church group on a over night camp and hiking trip! There was no need to curse and scream at them like they were criminals. You scared these children and at a time where people already don't trust officers you made it that...

We drove an hour to this place only to find a Do Not Enter sign. Closed for a “managed hunt in progress..” This place definitely seems to cater to the hunters and not hikers or other outdoor enthusiasts. But hey... better for revenue for the rangers I guess. Pro Tip: why not make life easier and post closure signs at the beginning of the road and in the “Road Closures” section of your website. As I am not a hunter or interested in hunting, I did not open the “Hunting” section until after I arrived and saw the good ole boys preparing for the kill... 🙄

This place is definitely in my top two of places to ride my 4 wheeler. The trails are well-maintained and not ripped to hell by sxs's so you can safely ride a 4 wheeler through any of the trails. There's a good mix of "flow" trails and slightly technical ones but none seem to be too much for the average rider. The peaceful rides and the spectacular views make for an awesome day of riding with friends. If you love riding through the woods on great trails, you must visit this place, ESPECIALLY in the fall when the leaves are changing.
