I personally am quite terrified of heights, and I'm quite tall, so I feel my center of gravity is quite high. That being said, rail bars usually don't provide much comfort to me. This location, while STUNNING, does not have any safety precautions (and I wouldn't want it to), but I would not advise to those who are prone to tripping or anyone with kids.
I also would not recommend to anyone who has limited mobility in legs or hips. There is a short, but steep walk from the parking to the rock.
It can be very cold here because there is nothing to block wind, and it's on top of Lookout.
Don't be fooled by the short hike, it is rocky and you need to wear shoes that are appropriate to hike in.
Parking is also quite a nightmare. There's usually very limited space (like 8-10 spots), and no where else to park for a few blocks, at least.

Sun goes down fast and it was so windy and cold. We went about a week and half before Christmas. If you keep walking to the left there was a trail you can do. We chose to perch at the top and just wait for the sunset. Only issue is there are only like 8 parking spaces if you have the time I would get there about 40 mins before the sunsets. The entrance and parking lot is in the middle is residential neighborhood who seem to take prohibited parking seriously there are so many towing signs so just be careful. All the houses are so beautiful and have such unique curb appeal. No fee and...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I recently hiked to Sunset Rock from Craven's House this past weekend (Nov. 4). We were visiting Chattanooga on vacation and had our pug with us. The hike from Craven's house was 1.5 miles to Sunset Rock. We would classify the hike as a moderate hike. Lots of uphill climbing with lots of rocks to maneuver around. It took us approximately 1 hour to make it to Sunset Rock. There were several others at the top when we got up there but we were still able to get some great photos. The hike down is definitely easier but still...
