This is the Tennessee Welcome Center along Interstate 24 East at mile marker 171, shortly after entering into Tennessee from Georgia. This welcome center is open 24 hours, but the hours for questions and such is from 8 am to 6 pm. Watch out though, the ramp to get into the welcome center can sneak up on you very quickly. Our visit was on August 4, 2018.
We made a stop here at this welcome center on the way to the hotel for the evening just north of Chattanooga. We got here right at 6 pm, so the staff were closing the visitor information desk and such, but the restrooms and brochures are available 24 hours a day here. Although it wasn't busy at the time I was there, there wasn't a lot of parking, so I'm sure it could fill up pretty quickly.
The main reason for the stop was to use the restroom. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. The facilities are nice and get the job done. Afterwards, I did a quick stroll around the outside to stretch a little bit before getting back on the road. There's some nice open space here. There are covered picnic tables and some art. Vending machines are located in the building marked vending next to the main welcome center building.
Overall, this was a very nice welcome center in Tennessee. The restrooms are clean and well maintained, open space to walk around outside, good hospitality, and just a welcoming feel in general. If your travels take you this way, it is worth stopping in for a break,...
Read moreWow! What a welcoming & inviting stop. The young woman at the front desk (Today’s her birthday!) was friendly & eager to help in any way she could. Combination recycling & trash bin were in the lobby area. Good idea.
Restrooms were clean & well stocked. I loved the hand-washing sign! A separate room in the main building had rocking chairs, a fireplace, and lots & lots of printed information.
Outside, we didn’t have time, but I wanted to do 14 laps for 2 miles. Next door, the vending machines had their own building. Picnic tables were available for all - accessible for those walking or needing assistance. This is a lovely...
Read moreIn all my years traveling and stopping at rest areas, I have never walked into one and felt comfortable enough to stick around for a bit. The restrooms were very clean. And they had a side with a fireplace, rocking chairs, and a Christmas tree where you could sit and relax for a little bit. There is plenty of information around Tennessee to do as well. Outside, there is a little play area for the kiddos to burn off some of the energy they have and plenty of shelters with tables for stopping to eat sandwiches outta the coolers. All in all, this is one of the nicest and cleanest rest areas I've...
