My friend had a 2:00 pm reservation for us and 1 other person for a tasting. When we arrived it was very crowded. It took about ten minutes for someone to seat us. We originally sat outside on the covered patio due to lack of accomodations indoors. There was no airflow. They have overhead heaters, but not fans. They gave us our cheese trays and poured our first wine. They did not tell us anything about the wine, not even a name. After waiting 30+ minutes, we moved indoors. There was no longer a crowd, and the atmosphere was fairly relaxed. We attempted to sit at the bar, but we're directed to a high top table that had not been cleared. Someone accompanied us and removed the dirty glasses, but did not take the half eaten food, or wipe the table. It was still at least another ten minutes before they brought us our second wine. Each wine was brought in about thirty minute intervals, which keeping in mind there are only about two-three smallish sips of each, is ridiculous. We asked if they could speed things up and their reply was that they didn't have enough glasses to bring them all at once. We expressed we did not expect that, but would simply like to move a bit faster. At that time we were on number 4 and they did go ahead and bring 5, then waited another thirty or so minutes to bring the 6th and final wine. Had the service improved when the rush died down we would have been understanding, pleased, even. My friends also each ordered a frozen drink. One got Frosé, which was Rosé and lemonade. The other was a Peach Bellini. Both of them were practically undrinkable. Of the wines in the tasting, the first white was the best, the third white was good, the second (rosé) was acceptable, but all three reds were bad. The three of us are all typically red wine drinkers so we were greatly disappointed. During the 2.5 hours we were there the power also went out about four times. Short intervals each, but with the rest of the experience leaving much to be desired it was the icing on the...
Read moreThis is an adorable little winery on this couple's property. Matt and Robyn have a neat back story and they want to share it and their wine with everybody. Just $5 for a tasting of 4 wines plus cheese and a tour, but they threw in a couple extras for us, including a taste of a red still aging in the barrel. My friend and I both purchased a bottle of wine and hung around for a while. We were introduced to their kids and pets and they had a genuine interest in us and our stories. This is not the kind of place where you just go to taste some wine and leave. This is the kind of place where you go to experience the wine and the people.
They import their grapes so they have the advantage, unlike other wineries in the south that grow their own grapes, to make any kind of wine they want, so you won't find muscadine wines here. They only have whites right now, but they have some reds aging they expect to be ready in a couple months.
If you have the opportunity to visit - do it! This place is incredible and I will definitely stop by again next time I'm in town and I look forward to seeing how...
Read moreNothing but an incredible experience... Please come here if you're in the Birmingham area.
My wife and I recently moved to the Birmingham area and we wanted to find ourselves a local winery. We tried a few, mainly provided via Group On Wine Tastings deals, but did not find "the one" until we happened to find Cat N' Bird.
From the first phone call in making the wine tasting reservation, to when I shook hands with Matt (the owner) before leaving, my wife and I had a wonderful time! The wine selection, though limited, was incredible! I would never suggest that one visit a winery without trying their wine tastings, Cat N' Bird is no exception to that rule; however, if you're merely looking to grab-n-go, this place will not disappoint. As young millennials, we enjoyed every pairing and wine - even the "dry" ones.
Atmosphere is riveting, music was a beautiful touch, food-truck coordination was stellar, and the community was EXACTLY what we hoped to find. The people here are what makes Cat N' Bird such a diamond.
I will be a regular, coming back every few Saturdays for a re-stock on...
