Old Baker Farm was a great way to spend the afternoon! I figured you go in and pick a pumpkin and that’s it but no, it was much more than that. We took a hayride to pick up pumpkin, and they even had carts to carry the pumpkin back to your car. there was at least 40 or 50 vendors with tent, set up to browse and shop. There was also multiple places to buy snacks or food such as hamburgers and chicken finger plates as well as popcorn and fresh fried pork skins. And if that was not enough, there was even a live bluegrass band for entertainment with picnic tables to sit and watch from. They had live farm animals from chickens and turkeys to goats and horses. We even spent 30 minutes watching an old west Circus style sad show with a bearded lady, strong man and a trick shot cowboy! Everyone had a great time and the place was very clean and organized. It was $13 to get in which included a pumpkin from the patch. If you paid cash, it was only $12. I would certainly recommend this for good family entertainment, and will certainly be going back again next year around this time! Be sure to watch the short video I uploaded of the bluegrass band, playing their version of “Salty...
Read moreI'm a bit disgusted by the "white-washing" of history. This could be a very interesting historical place. But instead during tours they are telling visitors at the Cotton field that, "Back in the 1800s the farmers had to pick cotton themselves. But thanks to the cotton gin, 'WE' don't have to do that anymore". Why wouldn't you just be honest. We all know this was a plantation and SLAVES were picking the cotton. You could be sensitive with the topic and say, "Back in the 1800s things were not fair to everyone. Different groups of people were forced to pick cotton in the hot sun. But one day one a man named Eli Whitney wanted to find a way to help get the cotton faster and developed the cotton gin. It saved everyone from having to pick cotton again just bc they looked different". It can be honest, sensitive, educational, and not graphic. But to white wash it all together is just absolutely disgusting. You're better off showing people your cotton and saying absolutely...
Read moreOld Baker Farm is a hidden gem in a quaint little town just a short drive from Birmingham. Full of great activities for the kids such as a corn maze, hay tower, train ride and farm animals to pet. The staff/Baker Family are second to none in their hospitality and friendliness. When you’re on the farm it feels like you’re family. The best part is cutting your own pumpkin off the vine or sawing your own Christmas tree down. (Hint: Go early in the season if you want the best selection of pumpkins. If you wait, some visitors have already cut pumpkins and left the behind the ones they decided not to get.)
Also, you’ve got to have a lemonade and roasted...
