Located on both Bureau of Land Management and state land, the South Loop of Fishtrap Lake is a safe, well located, and serene place to camp for no cost. There are a few hiking trails near by for a beginner and novice hiker. You are welcome to camp for up to 14 days before having to leave. There are quite literally no services near by with the exception being Cheney (around 15 miles) northeast of the lake. Or Sprague, a town 8 miles west of Fishtrap Lake on the Old Sprague highway. There's cool little spots for van camping littered through out. It's really windy so keep that in mind if you using tents. There's lakes with fishing andboat launches. several rv parks and resorts open during the warmer months. All in all its cool to explore. Most of the land is used for grazing so if you're on the trail don't be surprised if you come up on some farm animals. There's a few bathrooms and parking spots as you enter the area.    Read moreNot quite a trail anymore, so much as the suggestion of where a trail once was. Not sure about the place Veteran Wahl was describing, as there's nowhere for van (or any) camping. The areas where motorized vehicles are allowed, and penalties for driving off them, are well-marked. I don't remember seeing a Discovery Pass sign, but I might have missed it. No lakes nor boat launches, just a single line where the vegetation is slightly trampled and less-grown, like a path used to go there.
