There are (I believe) two parts to the Beaver Creek State Forest, which are not to be confused with Beaver Creek State Park. This review is for the section of BCSF near the Ohio/PA border.
While there is a surprise or two here worth seeing, mainly the old railroad elements, this section of forest is littered with garbage and industrial waste and it seems as though it's been this way for decades.
There have also been mentions of swimming holes within this area which I took upon myself to go find. One of them was in fair condition with more amphibian life than I've ever seen anywhere else, there was however a slight smell of sewage and I'd never consider it a swimming hole.
I went out and found two more of these "swimming holes" to discover that neither of them supported any animal life whatsoever and each had a foul odor. The fact that none of the many pathways actaully lead to either of these should have been my first clue that they weren't worth visiting.
