Not a friend to the disabled! We managed to find this place through the visitor center near our resort. I am legally blind, and I went on their website with my assistive technology and purchased a ticket for the Pohopoco Creek Alpacas. I was excited to go because I love animals and I thought this would be a nice thing to do before leaving the Poconos for the summer. When I purchased the ticket, I purchased it for myself, although I do travel with a guide to help me walk around, Not participate. To my surprise, soon after purchasing the ticket, I received an Email from the owner asking if I only purchased One ticket. This was completely unexpected. When I wrote back that, yes, as I am blind, I purchased one ticket and that I’d have a guide with me, the owner responded that the guide would have to purchase a ticket As Well. When I inquired if I could purchase a half price ticket or reduce price ticket as I am blind, she responded by saying NO, and she was canceling the reservation. The owner never gave me a chance to accept the reservation just for myself or amend it in anyway. Additionally, she wrote back that I would not enjoy it anyway. Who is she to say or know what I would or would not enjoy! This is very poor Customer Service, and not a very nice way to communicate with someone who is disabled. I am sorry, but I would avoid this place at all costs, if even for the Incredibly Poor customer service, or...
Read moreWe visited Pohopoco Creek Alpacas with our (brown) family of five and our small (6lb) dog, excited to enjoy time with the alpacas after our donation upon arrival. The alpacas were wonderful, and the lady greeting guests with carrots was kind and welcoming, setting a positive tone at the start.
Unfortunately, our experience was soured by an older woman on the property who became extremely inflammatory and antagonistic in her commentary toward us because of the presence of our dog, even though we stayed near the front and were respectful of the space. Rather than engage with her remarks, we chose to leave.
We are glad we left without spending further time or money on the property (a shame for the other vendors there)!
For other families considering a visit, be mindful that while the alpacas and the greeter make for a lovely experience, the tone and behavior of certain employees on the property can be unwarranted and disproportionately targeted. It may take away from what should otherwise be an enjoyable outing.
Edit following reply: Thank you for your comment, given guests should not be expected to know the list of Alpaca predators, please do include a visible disclaimer on all your flyers that you are not pet/dog friendly going forward as we would not have...
Read moreI felt the need to write a review Especially After reading a previous very Embellished negative review from another user. I wanted to share another perspective of the events that they shared. I witnessed the owner of the farm Approach this family And very kindly inform them that She was sorry but dogs were not allowed on the farm. They said okay , and assured her that they would take the dog away, However, as soon as she walked away, they stayed on the farm and took turns going in to feed the alpaca as their small dog barked at the alpacas through the fence. Finally the owner came back over about ten minutes later and more sternly told them that they had to take the dog off the farm given that she asked them to a quite a while ago. I think it's sad that this family had to come on here and bash A small business that cares for animals and provided a free event for people to come and see them, Just for standing firm on a non negotiable to protect her animals, and to imply that it was racially motivated. Don't let this review sour your opinion of Mary and her...
