I have always lived near the water specifically the ocean until 2015, and at first it did not seem similar. But now that I've lived 2 blocks from the the water once again, Ive realized that except for surfing and scuba diving it offers the same fulfillment as the ocean, plus you can drink the water, except the river is less buoyant. But water is water and that means there is life, both game and sports and people. Albeit there are some small differences. Ill just expound on the similarities, water skiing is much easier on a river, no chop or swells. Cooling off on a hot day with a quick dunk still requires one to take off your shoes and get your feet sandy, the temperature is roughly the same as you travel north in latitude, colder the farther north you go, so taking a plunge takes away one's breath. Sun bathing, with the added benefit of finding a secluded place to tan is easier at the rivers edge than the heavily populated coastline, having to traverse pacific coast highway and sneak between housing to access the water is a challenge if not hassle at the beach, were as hiking through dog island and doing the same is a nature walk not so much a mission or crusade. But once you find a spot to relax, it is both relaxing and well worth it. Fishing is fishing, only the way one collects and type of game is different, but both require a pole and baiting hooks and cleaning the game one harvests and a state license, or you find out how much you pay the government in fines to enjoy water life, and you have to register water craft you use larger than a surfboard on both. Just going to the river on a break and absorbing nature, both are very relaxing and serene. so one can find all the benefits of being with nature, again albeit small differences on all the waters around and within the state...

Read moreWow, this is such a beautiful place, and the little park is pretty darn cool as well.
There is a HUGE marine region up here called the Delta, I highly recommend getting a boat tour to properly see something beautiful before it goes away during the next CONDO building madness.
Sacramento is a beautiful town, and is so perfectly located along US 50, US 99, I-5, and I-80. You can go anywhere from here, or "anywhere" can bring you here.
The Sac river parks and marinas all have fairly easy access and usually have available parking during non-rush hour periods like any other tourist location.
If you're really into the Riverboat tour scene, you can go upstream quite a bit through the long and amazing dyke system, which takes a few hours and is like a back in time experience!
Come and enjoy the beautiful...
