So many clear cuts that it's not a forest anymore. And yet another clear cut has eliminated the last section of the Logan North Loop. There are no signs warning hikers they will have to hike 3.5 miles down a road instead of through a forest. They've eliminated the ability to do a backpack loop in favor of even MORE clear cutting.

Be warned... if you try to hike the Logan North Loop, you will have to add over 2.5 miles to the distance so you can have the joy of hiking on pavement for 3.5 miles.

I hiked 9 miles to get to the firetower only to be greeted with a sign warning me of potential arrest should I try to complete the loop. There were NO ALERTS anywhere along the way of this major reroute of a nature trail onto roads. Total distance of the trail increased...

this is one of the places that I have many memories when I was a young child. I am 50 years old now and I remember a family camping trips here when I was very little about 5 years old.there is a small Lake here to fish in there is a beach to go swimming there are trails to go hiking there is a bicycle rental and a storeand I believe they might even rent some other stuff such as the bikes that look like a go kart. It's been a couple of years since I have been over here and got to spend much time there.we used to have a lot of family picnics there as well when I was younger but it got to the point you have to reserve the shelter houses a year in advance now. lots of things have changed over the years maybe I will go camping again...

I have camped here twice and I will certainly be going back. The park is clean and scenic, the staff is friendly, you can borrow some sports equipment for free, there is plenty of space to walk around, and in my experience the park is nice and quiet. The only downside is the bathroom facilities, which are latrines that smell pretty awful. Some of the latrines do have a sink with soap on the outside, while others only have hand sanitizer. The shower house is adequately equiped and did not seem too dirty. I have heard that they plan to install real toilets in the shower house in the future. Despite the lackluster bathrooms, I still love Tar Hallow and think the price to stay there is...

We stayed at the primitive camp sites atop the hill, and it was nice and quiet. The vaulted toilets were fairly clean and the grass was freshly mowed. However, there was clothing hanging in the trees that had been there for quite some time. There was also rope and string hanging from the trees that was starting to dry rot from being left for so long. If the park maintenance staff would do a better job cleaning up after bad campers (who I prefer to place the blame) the park would be much better. Overall, not bad. But if people would clean up after themselves, it would be a non-issue.

Tar Hollow is a dense forest with amazing views and wildlife. Plan your route before heading out on the Logan or Buckeye Trail. Pay attention to the trail blazes too. The trail along the Logan and Buckeye Trails can be challenging. The trail is narrow and overgrown in some areas with several inclines, downed trees, and thorns. Bug spray is a must! Remember your water and take out with you what you brought in. I didn't camp here, but the campground is really nice. Lots of room and activities available for everyone, including a miniature golf area and an outdoor movie theater.

We did backpack camping here at tar hollow and had an absolute blast. There are plenty of trails to hike and a lot of nature to see! They have 5 tent sites available in the fire tower area! You do have to go to the general store to reserve them and they are first come first serve but it's only $4/per person. You can park and hike to the fire tower or drive right up to the fire tower and explore after setting up, like we did! Highly recommend this spot specifically for the back camping but they have some good regular camp sites too!
