This was our first time here, and we absolutely loved it. The park is beautiful, and everyone we encountered was extremely friendly. There was a slight mix-up on our first night in, as another camper was still on our site when we went to check in. Apparently, they thought they had booked through the following day, and the park was completely full. The park manager scrambled to make things work out, and that he did. We ended up in one of the walk-in sites, and couldn't have been happier with it. It is a beautiful well maintained park with lots of things to do and see. The vault toilets are, well, just that. Toilets. Nothing pleasant. However, there is a newer bathroom and shower area in one of the sections, and it is pretty nice. There are tons and tons of stink bugs in the area. Despite our valiant efforts, I'm sure we brought some home with us. Make sure you keep your food secured at night, as the raccoons do like to come and visit, as raccoons do. We had one little buddy try to get in our car. although there is absolutely no service within the campsites or within 11 miles of the park, there is a hotspot up at the store if you really need to be on your phone. I would stay here over any other park in the area anytime. There is absolutely no doubt, that we...
Read moreStayed here for a night. Everyone in the surrounding area was really friendly, cute places and scenic views abound. Seems everyone and their grandma sells fire wood lol. The sites are somewhat close together but I mean, you can tell that when you look at the campsite map so if that surprises you...that's on you. General store closes early and isn't open during the week so idk if you can rent boats or bikes during the week which is -1 star, seems kind of silly to me.
We went off-season (first true cold week of the season) and the pit toilets honestly weren't bad at all for what they are. If you've gone camping before you won't be horrified. The campgrounds are small enough and have TONS of these pit toilets everywhere and the shower house + flush toilets are never very far away at all. Not sure what people are expecting, a private flush toilet with every site? Some folks...lol. Seriously though, the shower house + good toilets are like a two minute drive or a five minute walk MAX, right in the center of the grounds.
Playground was cute and seemed like it'd be a lot of fun for kids, the lake was gorgeous. What little bit we hiked (arrived late in the day and left before noon next day) was really nice, but don't be dumb. A lot of slanted trail and...
Read morebackpacking day 1 south trail day 2 north trail stayed at fire tower. please be on the lookout for snakes. If you have dogs i would keep them leashed. We found a timber rettler crossing the trail and it did not want to move, im afraid if i would have had my dogs with me we would have had trouble. the nort trail is better kept than the south trail even though both trails are hard to follow. lots of trees down blocking the trails and hard to get around due to thick brambles. I enjoyed the trails but would not do them again and would highly recommend archers fork trail over the logan trail. the logan trail was not very scenic, just trees and some creek crossings. make sure to check out the info on backpackohio.com the trail mileage with descriptions kept us from getting lost a few times. south trail was a lot more overgrown. we went early in the week and did not encounter any other humans while on the trail. each trail was at least 9.5 miles. the camp at the fire tower was nice and it was a short drive to the shower at the campground if needed. there are some pretty steep climbs. I would not recommen this to a...
